Giants want Bonds -- at ceremony

The Giants want Barry Bonds back at China Basin - for Saturday's pregame ceremony honoring five decades of Giants outfielders. Bonds has not returned to the ballpark, at least publicly, since the Giants informed him in September they would not re-sign him for 2008. As part of their 50th anniversary in San Francisco, the Giants have been honoring players from the past five decades by position. On Saturday, it will be the outfielders. Staci Slaughter, the Giants' senior vice president for communications, said No. 25 was sent an invitation.

Something tells me that numchuk might be a little bitter about the Giants, his dead career, or something

August 6, 2008  09:08 AM ET

will Conte and the rest of the Balco gang be there with him?

August 6, 2008  09:39 AM ET

Honor him for what? His decades of cheating and drug abuse. Maybe they will give him a bronzed syringe for his services!

August 6, 2008  09:46 AM ET

OK there are other players in MLB that have cheated and are still playing. I say get rid of them all. But until they do that and until they go back and change the laws/rules to be in effect 10 years ago he is no worse then the rest of the players. You can say what you want but Bonds put people in the seats and had made MLB and the Giants tons of money. He should be honored. Now it is up to him if he wants to go back. I have no problem with it. I still say the reason Bonds is so hated is because he would not kiss writers "you know what". He played the game the way he wanted to play it. I have no problem with it as I see pro sports as entertainment. If you or your kids look up to these guys there is a bigger issue.

Now would be the PERFECT time for an OMAAR rant.....

You Bonds haters are so full of crap. Decades? What a loser you are. Thankfully, haters like you have short, miserable lives.

Do you want that psycho McCain with his finger poised above the nuke button?

August 6, 2008  10:25 AM ET

Here's a clue for the painfully ignorant, like LostMind. The Steroid Era happened, just like the decades long Amphetimine Era happened.

MLB let it happen. Small minded haters want to use Bonds as the poster boy for the Steroid Era. Screw them. Their hate keeps them ignorant.

Your rantings take me back to a bygone era when Birth of A Nation was a box office prize and gibbering morons like yourself were institutionalized without question.

August 6, 2008  12:07 PM ET

I say **** the Giants. If Bonds doesn't want to attend, who can blame him?

August 6, 2008  12:25 PM ET

Should be quite the ceremony, you got Mays obviously, Bonds (if he goes), uh Kruk if he isn't busy on TV, Vizquel (but he's paid to be there anyway), I said Mays already right? Fun!

August 6, 2008  12:30 PM ET

being a dodger fan I hate bonds and the giants , but i would have to agree with bonds .he personally has carried that pathetic franchise for a decade and they have had the chance to resign throughout the year, instead they basically kicked him to the curb when the **** started flying. Way to show some class giants! crap on him, and then out of pity invite him to some ceremony full of wahed up **** bags.

August 6, 2008  01:29 PM ET

OK, I am not a fan of Bonds, but he had a great career and from everything I read in the 'stroids issue, he did it while it was NOT banned by MLB. The other thing is that he has not been found guilty of anything that I know of. So I think he should be part of the ceremony!

As a veteran of 20 years in the US Army and 2 tours of duty in the Republic of Vietnam, what I DON'T want is a president who refuses to place his hand over his heart when the National Anthem is played. In the photograph I am referring to, at least Hillary stood there with her hand over her heart. If elected, he would be the Commander-in-Chief of all US military forces. I doubt the Marines who guard the White House will be overjoyed to have to come to attention and salute a man who shows such disrespect for the same flag that these Marines (OORAH) are willing to defend with their lives. Nor do I want a first lady who after all these years is FINALLY PROUD to be an American (those are her own words - you can't take that out of context) just because her husband won the Democratic Party nomination for president. GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES AMERICA!!

August 6, 2008  02:18 PM ET

As a giants fan ol Nick knows all about ignorance. Bonds has not been convicted yet, but his bulked up physique is clearly the result of using Steroids. Legal or not, their use has put a cloud over several MLB players and their accomplishments. Ask Hank Aaron how he feels about his record being broken by a Juicer.

August 6, 2008  03:51 PM ET

Alright, enough about Bonds.

What about that lunatic midget in reach of the nuke switch?

August 6, 2008  04:48 PM ET

Barry should turn his back on those two faced cheapskate owners who stink up the Park up in my City.Say what you want about Bonds and there is plenty ,but those owners are so weak its pathetic .They are an embarrassment to themselves that has translated in to poor management ,diabolical signings and trades by space cadet Sabean and as for Peter Magowan his distanced himself so far from Bonds he ended up in the China Basin .
Whatever Barry does will be the wrong thing, for those waste of time newspaper writers who crucified him in San Francisco and ...Barry give them all the finger ...They deserve nothing from you , you put $ in the seats for that club for years ,plus all around the league wherever you played ,the opposing teams attendance went up , for what ever reason...and now you cant find a Team to take you ....Weak owners getting shafted by a Selig finger ?.
