After his 3-1, complete-game win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday night, right-hander Brandon Webb said he and the team had agreed to terms on a contract extension in June, only to have the Diamondbacks pull the offer. Webb is signed through 2009 with a team option for 2010. His extension would have been guaranteed through 2013. On his drive to the ballpark, he heard fans on talk radio calling him greedy and accusing him of not wanting to be with the Diamondbacks. He said that's not the case. "I just want to let fans know that I'm not the one who pulled it off the table," Webb said.

Second....ok thats enough....

August 7, 2008  06:18 AM ET

somehow this story will be tied to Brett Farve !!

August 7, 2008  06:21 AM ET

or Manny Rameriez!

August 7, 2008  06:31 AM ET

Maybe Farve can stay with Manny's parents in their NYC home?

August 7, 2008  07:55 AM ET

Wow- this is the top headline? It's gonna be a slow news day...

August 7, 2008  07:56 AM ET

Of course they pulled the offer. Who needs Brandon Webb?

August 7, 2008  07:56 AM ET

Oh wait I mean ONLY headline?! WTH?!

August 7, 2008  08:40 AM ET

The D-Backs have got to be smart enough to know that locking up Webb would be a cornerstone for their franchise, along with Haren. Two of the 10 best pitchers in baseball on one team? Get it done, guys.

August 7, 2008  09:12 AM ET

Webb should be happy, with efforts like today his price is rising.

August 7, 2008  09:22 AM ET

They probably wanted to make the offer better...probably something better than Haren's, since Webb is the Ace

August 7, 2008  09:39 AM ET

I wonder why they pulled it. I can't imagine they would let Webb get away. He's as good as it gets, and hasn't been injury prone.

August 7, 2008  09:48 AM ET

maybe he can be in pinstripes next year then

August 7, 2008  09:55 AM ET

Sign Kenny Lofton..problem solved!

August 7, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Wow the D backs better not lose him he is basically their whole team !! you can't replace him

August 7, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Great news for the Yankees... we will take him

August 7, 2008  10:35 AM ET

Or one of the other aces on the market.
Yanks do have some young arms, but the contracts are up on Pettite and Mussina...they should look at acquiring one of the top pitchers out there even if they don't sign them all...

August 7, 2008  10:45 AM ET

I for one am looking forward to the triumphant return of one Carl Pavano
