A 10 year contract?!?!? Chances of him still being at KU in 2018... 1%

He's a college coach so I think he will do the 10 years. He's at one of the best programs in College Basketball so I really can't see him going elsewhere.

10 years is a long time these days. I wonder if it is voidable at some point prior to 10 years, b/c if they ever go a stretch of a few bad seasons KU will probably be looking for someone new.

I don't think he'll ever leave Kansas.....why would he?

I would be very surprised if Self left KU...I think he's put his own stamp on the program and completely obliterated Ole Roy

ae1525: When is the last time you remember KU having one bad season, let a lone a few in a row? That wont happen. Especially with Self recruiting and it being KU.

At KU, like most perennial winners, anything less than a conference title, final four, or national title is often considered an underperformance. Those are pretty high standards, especially in today's college basketball world.

Yeah, but as long as you have won championships at a school like that, and are consistently a contender, you can stay as long as you want. ie - Dean Smith at UNC. Self will continue to win conference titles on a regular basis and contend for the Final Four. He can be at KU as long as he wants.

Absolutely a STUPID move by KU. No way can you predict a recruiting flow that far out. Should have been a 4 year gig, and every resign/extension the same after that.

Good for coach self much deserved and a hard earned championship! 10 yr/30 mil sounds good to me!

i think coach self is a great coach and one that I would want to offer s long and lucrative conctract as I could.

That's not a stupid move by KU. They have a hold of a coach they really like, that does more for the university than just sports, so they want to keep him. Remember KU went through the soap opera and eventual departure of Roy, and they don't want to live through that again. He's a better in game coach then Roy ever has been. Self is one of the top coaches (and probably the top defensive coach) in the nation. Smart move showing commitment to him so that he will return the favor.

I'll say this about Self. I'm an Illini fan, and I wish to heck he was still in Champaign and it was Illinois that signed him to a 10 year deal

Well... he didn't last at Illinois for long so who is going to bet he will stay the coach for Kansas? Money and popularity are his weaknesses for quitting Kansas.

I think both sides know the odds of him being there ten years are pretty low. Still, good deal for him. Kansas had the best team this year and he got the most out of his players. I doubt they're back in the Final Four next year though.

good for self. good for KU. I agree that if he were to leave it would be for either his alma mater (OSU.....and he said no to Boone Pickens). or another top program......and KU is right in the top tier.

Great...he's a humble man who knows how to win. I predict he'll make a significant mark in the college basketball world in those ten years. Money won't go to his head, winning will become a staple in Lawrence, Kansas. He may be as good as they come. Congrats Kansas Jayhawks! A great move to keep the best coach in Lawrence...look out Jayhawk foes!
