Not only is Pavel Kubina unlikely to be traded, but Cliff Fletcher is talking him up as a possible captain if Mats Sundin departs. With an Aug. 15 window to shop Kubina rapidly closing, the Maple Leafs' general manager yesterday listed the chance of dealing the $5-million defenseman as "less than 50%." "Any trade involving Pavel would have to be very advantageous for the Leafs," Fletcher said.

Hmm, tough call, it's not specifically a Sundin story... Yeah, I think so. Get bent T&R.

You mean Sundin won't be the C no matter what?

Since when have the Leafs been any good at trades?? Or anything, for that matter?

Captain Caveman!

August 7, 2008  11:14 AM ET

I'd have a hard time naming anybody called Pavel as my captain.

August 7, 2008  11:22 AM ET

Captains courageous! Because you'd have to be to want to be captain of that team.

That's still more of a chance than the Leafs have of making the playoffs....zing!!

August 7, 2008  01:14 PM ET

Captain Kangaroo. Yes, he's dead, but the Leafs won't know the difference.

August 7, 2008  01:58 PM ET

I think it's safe to say the next Leaf captain, whoever he/she may be, will not be a memorable lad.
