Can Irish win with Clausen?

Can Notre Dame win with Jimmy Clausen? Perhaps a better question is, can Charlie Weis get digital cameras banned on campus? (We kid, we kid.) Seriously, though, injuries and a porous line did not allow for an accurate portrayal of Clausen in 2007. That said, Clausen will be 21 before the season is a month old. It's fair to wonder how much he will improve physically. Right now he seems like a quarterback the Irish can win with, assuming his weapons are dangerous. How big can the Irish win with him? That remains to be seen.

Sure they can, but only if Pickle Boy is drunk. And from what we know about Clausen, he really seems to like his alcohol.

The even better question is: can Notre Dame win with a hack like Charlie Weis?

August 8, 2008  08:39 AM ET

One thing not mentioned is when Crist takes over for Clausen, Jimmy will have more time to play his drinking games.

After looking at hs tapes of both Clausen & Crist [both have tapes on net] we think Dyne Crist is a far better QB than Clausen, & we predict that if he were given a chance THIS year, he would be the difference maker in several games - especially later in the season & with the backfield of Hughes & Allen at the same time - Mr Inside & Mr Outside! Food-for-speculation!

Wait Wait Wait a minute wasn't Clausen the seconf coming for the Golden Domers?

How quick you turn on him, he hasn't had anything to work with and a coach thats too arrogant to change things....

This one's like a hot potato, so good I don't know where to pick it up

August 8, 2008  09:40 AM ET

No, because the Irish have been eating to many beans and they've been blowing a lot of gas lately. They've stuck up the football college scene so bad, that a comeback this year is not an option...it is a must!

I second xx84. Where's the loyalty?

August 8, 2008  09:59 AM ET

Clausen's drinking is no different from any other college campus. How soon people forget their troubled players from there campus. The internet has allowed everyone to see it, unlike yester year. Any where from Columbus, Ann Arbor to Souther Cali, athletes and students have participated in parties that serve beverages. This entire situation has been blown out of portion.

I was just about to ask the same thing

August 8, 2008  10:06 AM ET

I highly doubt Weis will put Crist in as a Freshman. Jimmy will be just fine as long as he gets more protection from the offensive line this year. I am going out on a limb here, but I am going to predict the Irish do better this year then they did last year...I may be full of hot air but I guess I just have a feeling...

August 8, 2008  10:14 AM ET

Another Clausen kid who made the wrong decision following the wrong coach.. whats it with their propensity for following fat stupid coaches??

I hope Chuckie Weis gets run over by that same bus he threw that freshman transfer kid under.

Question was:.."Can Irish win with Clausen"? Answer: "Yes". To the knuckle heads, here, who never played the game, please note, its a team sport. With a better O line and a running game, quick passing attack, NO costly pennalties, a defence that gets take aways, Yes they can win with Clausen. He has the better chance of success than say....Farve with the Jets. Irish could win 8 games this year. Farve maybe 6. "Farve is HOF caliber", but his team isn't. Point is if your not standing up....you're not going to have a QB for long, thats the facts.

August 8, 2008  10:35 AM ET

Alohabob, I completely agree, even if ND had an NFL probowler last it wouldn't have made a difference.

I would like to ND become a national power again, much like I would like to Alabama,Nebraska, Miami, and FSU come back. I feel like thats just the way it should be.

August 8, 2008  10:37 AM ET

Yes they can win with Clausen.

August 8, 2008  10:40 AM ET

Clausen is an immense talent...I just don't think ND has immense talent at the skill positions. Its not just on Clausen. He is kind of old though, for being a sophomore. I just turned 21 and I'm a senior. My HS athletic career would have panned out differently if I was 2 yrs older than most kids.

August 8, 2008  10:42 AM ET

Yes they can win with Clausen.

J. HOVA: IS GRIFF

They are in much worse shape without him. Weis? Not so much.

August 8, 2008  10:50 AM ET

the schedule will mean more than how jimmy plays

August 8, 2008  10:56 AM ET

No! But they could win if they had Brett Favre.
