Teixeira puts off Orioles talk

Mark Teixeira has been asked about playing for his hometown Orioles ever since he has been in the big leagues, and his answer has never changed. "It's always something that would be very special to me," Teixeira said today. "But like I said, in a couple months, when the season's over, I'll sit down and make those decisions." Teixeira, whom the Angels acquired from the Atlanta Braves last week, is eligible for free agency after the season and he's not interested in discussing his options until then, so the Orioles talk will have to wait.

As much as tex might like to play for the O's, it;s not gonna happen -- His agent is bora$$ -- sentimentality means zero -- he'll only use the O's to drive up the bidding price -- And with the yanks having many millions coming off the books after 2008, I say there's already a pinstriped jersey with Tex's name on it in NY.....

If Teixeria is smart, he'll stay in LA and play for the Angels. These guys are so willing to give up WINNING for money, but I guess that's what motivates some people.

I wouldn't want those distractions either. But Teixeria seems to be a little bit of a prima dona..so I still think he will chase money over contention.

Ever heard of Frank Robinson?

August 8, 2008  10:41 AM ET

I'd like to see Tex go to Baltimore and help turn the O's around.

August 8, 2008  10:55 AM ET

From his time in Atlanta, I can tell you he's totally a hired gun..... not a cancer or anything, but he's going to a winner who pays him a lot of bank..... although we could get an ARod scenario (his Texas contract) if some desperate team is willing to drastically overpay him..... but, he's no ARod....so if someone does that, they are going to be disappointed.....

I think we were talking about this century....

August 8, 2008  11:09 AM ET

any guy represented by Boras, so his contract discussions will be unorthodox and self-serving and most likely even duplicitous ... the Yankees need his bat at 1st but not Boras ... better to continue struggling every year ....

Ohhh it will take a lot more than Tex to turn that club around. You really want to make a difference in Baltimore? Get rid of Peter Angelos.

August 8, 2008  02:50 PM ET

red looks good to him

August 8, 2008  03:07 PM ET

Boston may be in the mix. Youk's name got tossed around during the trade deadline. Manny's gone. Ortiz is complaining about not having a big stick batting after him to improve his at bats.

August 8, 2008  03:56 PM ET

Yankees have a lot of money coming off the books. Expect it to be a bidding war between NY and Boston. Tex you are a Boras client, quit the bull about wanting to play for Baltimore, they wont pay you 20mil

YANKEES! Damon, Jeter, Teixiera, AROD, Matsui, Posada (DH), Cano, (Cather), Cabrera... Ring #28... after they take it all this year #27!
