Jason Schmidt is expected to throw a bullpen session this week as part of a late effort to be part of the Dodgers' playoff push, but Manager Joe Torre admitted Thursday that it would be a "longshot" for the former All-Star to pitch in the majors this season. Torre said the rehabilitation process will last until the second week of September -- and that's if Schmidt doesn't have any more setbacks.

Am I to understand that this tool has produced a grand total of ONE win with the Dodgers?

HA!!!

August 8, 2008  10:02 AM ET

Schmidt has been stealing money since his days in Pittsburgh

I almost forgot all about Jason Schmidt

August 8, 2008  11:11 AM ET

why rush it? just let him rehab and come back next spring ... the Dodgers aren't going anywhere near the playoffs anyway.

August 8, 2008  11:39 AM ET

They wouldn't be if they weren't in the West......but they are definitely in it, given the division they are in.

I hear Schmidt and Carl Pavano are working out together. They were seen the other day rolling a ball to one another !!!

August 8, 2008  02:57 PM ET

Are you sure that wasn't Mark Prior?

August 8, 2008  03:32 PM ET

Seem like the Dodgers are the black hole for former ace pitchers.

He was their "caddy" when an errant ball rolled past them Mark was there to "scoop it up" !!! "He's a little behind them in the rehab !!!

Another injured pitcher. He would fit perfectly into the Cardinal rotation.

One fricking win for all that money. One.

Yea, between him that loser andrew jones they're robbing the bluecrew of 30 mil per year.
The Dodgers need to realize that by keeping these two clowns around only guarantees losses. EVERY single time one of these leaches steps onto the field the Dodgers chances of winning go right down the drain.

August 9, 2008  04:36 PM ET

hold on buddy. schidmt doesnt qualify as a dodger yet. hes a **** for not tlling dodgers he had problems. as far as im concerned hes still works for the giants. a.jones is looking better, had a hr vs cards. lets see wat happens in playoffs.

jones was on the DL from May 19 - July 4. From July 4th up to today, he is 11 for 77 (I'm no mathematician so I don't know what that translates to as far as BA over that span, but I know it sukks). Plus add the 33 strikeouts since he's been activated means this clown strikes out 3 times more than he hits, and if watch the damn games you'll see that most of the time he strikes out "looking", this coward won't even freakin swing at the ball anymore. The Dodgers are much better off by just taking the 14 million dollar hit and cutting this loser with his "couldn't give a **** attitude" and not risk letting him possibly contaminate the rest of the team anymore than he already has. Even when the Dodgers are winning a game, once they put jones in, even if it's just a pinch hit role, they inevitably will lose the game, he's a detriment to the cause, and a jinx at the very least. The only hope dodger fan has is that andruw actually gets a hit one of these days...cuz the shock will probably cause him to die from cardiac arrest.
