There were indications yesterday that the Eagles were close to completing a new deal with running back Brian Westbrook. First, a report surfaced on profootballtalk.com that "Westbrook was telling others" that he had agreed to a new deal with the team.Later, an Eagles source said the team was still working on the agreement.

hey at least he did not hold out like some selfish, little child. This guy has been amazing the past couple of years. Truly the team MVP.

Thank goodness...show the players in the locker room you aren't as callous as you appear Mr. Lurie and Mr. Banner.

Both sides should be applauded for the way this situation was handled. Steven Jackson, are you watching?

August 8, 2008  07:43 AM ET

Westbrook wasn't happy with his current contract. He didn't whine to the media or hold out of camp. He did what everybody should do. Work hard in practice and let his agent handle it. Good for both parties

Agreed Lifer. He's a class act for sure.

Great ball player and in interviews seems like a sincere guy. I hope that the Eagles do not wear him out......how many touches in the last 3 seasons? Doesn't he nearly catch at 50% to the number of runs? Small too, a real beating.

August 8, 2008  08:11 AM ET

he deserves a new deal.

August 8, 2008  08:18 AM ET

These are the types of players you give new contracts to. He deserves more money & is def an asset to this team ...

I am a Huge Cowboys Fan, but this guy has deserved everything he is about to get. I like to watch Westbrook. He has carried this team and made them a force for years. I'm glad he is getting paid.

August 8, 2008  08:38 AM ET

he's been pretty much the offense the past few years so maybe he deserves it ...

He will obviously have a good amount of touches but they did bring in help to take a bit of the load off him in Booker so he should be pretty good on that front.

One of the greatest Eagles ever to don the jersey. He absolutely deserves this new deal.

August 8, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Does he really deserve a new deal? He is constant offense when on the field, but he is barely on the field! He misses a lot of time with minor nagging injuries. You have to be careful when signing RB to long term contracts.

IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!!

He missed practice, but rarely misses actual games.

What do you think Brett Favre had for dinner for his first night in New York?
