If Italy comes knocking with big money next summer, the NBA could lose its biggest star in Kobe Bryant. In lieu of a report that Cleveland star LeBron James would strongly consider playing in Europe for $50 million for one season when he becomes a free agent in two years, when asked by The Boston Globe about the report Bryant said he would take a similar deal by a pro team in Italy if offered when he becomes a free agent next summer. The Associated Press originally reported that Bryant could have interest in playing professionally in Europe. "I'd go. I'd probably go," said Bryant, during a USA Basketball press conference on Friday morning. "Like Milan or something like that, where I grew up or something like that? Peace out." Bryant continued: "Do you know any reasonable person that would turn down 50 (million dollars)?"

Does Kobe really still care about money? Doesn't he yet have to win a NBA championship without Shaq?

August 8, 2008  07:39 AM ET

he has a point. 50 million is alot to turn down, you hearing this Dr. Buss. Kobe has titles so it would be all about the money.

August 8, 2008  07:49 AM ET

Can you imagine what his stats would be like in a European league? 40 pts/game? 45? The truth is that Kobe doesn't care where he plays, if he's getting paid and you know his name.

Kobes wayy over rated, who cares where he goes, plenty of people to take his spot.

August 8, 2008  07:53 AM ET

Let him go...have fun...peace out.

August 8, 2008  08:00 AM ET

Its all about the money....

August 8, 2008  08:12 AM ET

have fun earning that money and maybe he could average 40+.
Maybe AI might beat him over there

Name one person in the NBA better than him then if he's overrated and someone could easily fill his spot.

Bad time for Kobe to be talking about this. He should have learn from last summer. He does not need more controversies. This is no big deal to me but many people will attack him right away w/ no mercy. The Olympic players should put everything aside and concentrate on winning the gold. We just hope the "Redeem Team" can redeem themselves. They haven't played the real teams in the Olympics yet. It used to be a 100% chance of winning the gold in the past but now it's down to 25%. Not good stats. There are too many strong teams that played together for a long time very well. Teams like Argentina, Spain, France, and also Greece.

50 million in Italy is like 23 Million here...he better ask for 50 million EURO

August 8, 2008  08:37 AM ET

what I mean is, that getting paid 50 million American is a lot, obviously, but when you're converting it to Euro, you get killed...and it's probably more like 27 million

The NBA would be in BIG trouble if Kobe and Lebron went to Europe!

August 8, 2008  08:39 AM ET

If Kobe or Lebron or any other superstar heads to Europe, it would cement Michael Jordan as the greatest player of all time. On top of his awards and rings, Jordan can say that he made basketball so big globally that the next generation of top NBA stars could legitimately leave the league to play overseas.

August 8, 2008  08:39 AM ET

This is a wake up call to all the morons out there "claiming" that these NBA superstars would never leave the league... How stupid can you be?? Money talks bull ish walks... And don't hate on Kobe for speaking the truth... He's the best player in the league, so if he says he'd be out, then you know everyone else would be too... And why shouldn't they?? This is a business, and last time i checked making money was the whole point of being in business...

August 8, 2008  08:42 AM ET

I don't blame Kobe or any of the other guys that have bolted! I look at it like this...most of the guys who sign those 100 mil deals are only going to net about 35 mil...so if a player has an opportunity to net 50mil for one season...he is foolish if he doesn't at least explore the possibility...Money talks and BS runs the marathon!

August 8, 2008  08:48 AM ET

Here's how that conversation would go with me:

Italian owner: We would like to offer you Fifty milli---
Me: YES! Do you have a pen or should I just prick my finger and sign?

August 8, 2008  08:50 AM ET

Lebron will be playing for Olympiakos in 2010 if David Stern doesn't do something about the salary cap quickly.

August 8, 2008  08:50 AM ET

I mean come on - Josh Childress playing for $30M over 3 years!?
