Packers euphoric over Jets deal
General manager Ted Thompson, coach Mike McCarthy and team President Mark Murphy said all the right things Thursday, about 20 hours after consummating the Green Bay Packers' historic trade of quarterback Brett Favre to the New York Jets for a conditional fourth-round draft choice. Left unsaid was the feeling of relief and euphoria at club headquarters about being able to solve the Favre crisis with a month remaining before the regular season and gain more attractive compensation than club officials deemed possible less than a week ago. A Journal Sentinel source said the Buccaneers' offer consisted of Chris Simms, one of four veteran quarterbacks on their roster, and a fourth-round draft choice in 2010 that would be awarded only if Favre also played in 2009. According to ESPN, the Packers told the Buccaneers they would accept a third-round pick that could upgrade to a second plus quarterback Brian Griese. Bruce Allen, Tampa Bay's general manager, denied that Griese's name was discussed with Green Bay. The Jets, however, blew the Buccaneers out of the water with an offer that Green Bay readily accepted. Quarterback Chad Pennington, who ended up being released Thursday, didn't interest the Packers and wasn't part of the discussions.

Is there anywhere you can bet on which team will have the better record this year? Those would be interesting odds.

They should be: they got most value for Favre, traded him not only out of the division but out of the conference, traded him to a team that's a threat to nobody, and won't have to see him at Lambeau in another team's jersey for this year at least. They came out the best. Hell yeah. Now, however, everything rides on Rodgers.

Rodgers is a young QB. He's is going to throw some picks, just like Favre did back in '93 during his first year. If he keeps it to a minimum, the Pack will win more games, because they have something the Jets don't have--a defense.

Hey, Arnie- I agree that Rodgers will throw some interceptions, but as long as he doesn't throw more than the record holder I think he will do okay. FaRve is the leader there, right? For some reason I'm an instant Aaron Rodgers fan and can't wait to see him do well. I will be interested to see how FaRve does in NY, too. Can't wait for the season.

SILLY PACKERS - Favre was an ironman and all other QBs get hurt!! They will soon realize the error of their ways when Rodgers goes down with a boo-boo and the packers will be... packing poop in their lunchpails.

Rodgers and Favre are completely different QBs. Favre is a balls-to-the-wall, make something happen QB with a lot of instinctive talent. Rodgers is methodical, deliberate, low risk. If he throws picks, it won't be because he's taking chances.

Well its finally over ..brett has a new team and the packers are packin it in with rogers . I shure hope what the packers see in rogers works out else the fans in greenbay is gonna be very upset. I remember the 49ers did the same thing with smith ..there was so much talk and talk about how good he was ...turned out he wasnt what everybody expected ..i dont even think greenbay will make the playoffs i guess brett the main cheese is gone ..and rogers throwing beans '''lol"

I wonder how euphoric TT is feeling knowing he lost the only QB that could take GB to the playoffs this year because, in his words, of "communication" issues.

Why shouldn't they be? They got rid of a ginormous Excedrin type headache that wasn't going away and .... they put an end to their worst PR nightmare ever!

Aaron Rodgers better play like an all-pro or he, McCarthy, and Thompson will soon be looking for new jobs. The pressure is on to win the division at least.
