Michael Carter of Pompano Beach (Fla.) Ely High, the seventh-best cornerback in the nation according to Rivals.com, is considering scholarship offers from Florida, Georgia, Miami, Minnesota and West Virginia. Carter said he and his father plan to sit down and schedule his five official fall visits. He anticipates committing in January at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

One of these programs isn't like the other,
one of these programs isn't the same.

Maybe he's keeping the gophers around for the whole "guarantee of playing time" reassurance from one of his prospective schools.

Interesting seeing Minnesota in there. I think he goes to Florida or Georgia.

August 8, 2008  09:14 AM ET

All Golden Gopher all the time!

August 8, 2008  09:55 AM ET

I like I said...it appears as if WVU offers everyone a scholarship according to FN.

August 8, 2008  10:38 AM ET

Go to Miami.

August 8, 2008  10:42 AM ET

Or it could be because his cousin is former Gopher Tyrone Carter (who was a good player) who is helping him with his recruitment.

and there you have it...Welcome to the Big 10 son!

August 8, 2008  11:05 AM ET

I hate these stories... let us know when he picks one of the 50 schools that are inetrested in him.

August 8, 2008  11:34 AM ET

He'll be a star at Minnesota no doubt! To the comment about WVU offering...it does seem like they offer everyone all the time (astute observation).

August 8, 2008  01:01 PM ET

If you want a shot at a National Championship, go to one of the first three schools. If you want to start within a year, with less of a shot at the NC, go to one of the last two schools. Honestly, with the kid coming from Pompano Ely, Randy Shannon SHOULD have him locked down.

August 8, 2008  02:12 PM ET

Nope...UGA all the way.

August 8, 2008  04:49 PM ET

I've heard that Randy has set up a virtual fence around Miami, so we'll see if that's true.

August 8, 2008  04:56 PM ET

True but Patrick Johnson was from Pompano and he de-committed from Miami to go to LSU. With that said Randy Shannon has to land this kid for the simple fact that he's a top talent from the area.

August 8, 2008  06:00 PM ET

I hope he goes to Minny.

August 8, 2008  07:41 PM ET

I hoep he goes to the "U". Shannon has really stepped up his recruiting efforts.

August 8, 2008  07:42 PM ET

I hope he makes the right decision and decides to stay home and go to the "U".

Randy Shannon has really stepped up his recruiting since he took over the Head Coaching position last year. I think we'll land him!

August 9, 2008  05:10 PM ET

I'm sure he is really considering Minnesota over Miami, Florida and Georgia.

Maybe he wants to see what real snow looks like.

August 9, 2008  05:19 PM ET

I say go to LSU so you can help LSU win it's 3rd BCS Championship. Just ask fellow Miami area freshman Patrick Johnson (changed to Peterson). He will be starting for LSU this year and the coaches are raving about him. If you want to play defense go to LSU.

August 9, 2008  05:22 PM ET

go to florida. that defense is slowly building into a top tier level. he could probably come in and play nickel or dime as a freshman on a national championship challenging team when Tebow is playing his Senior year.

August 10, 2008  08:39 AM ET

Florida's defense stinks. With **** emphasis on the spread don't expect it to get better anytime soon. UGA has had some great defenses the last 7 years just ask LSU who only scored 14 the last couple of times they played us.
