Westbrook's 'complicated' new deal

The contract is loaded with incentives, voidable years, and pages and pages of addendums. "I think it was the most complicated contract I've ever seen," Eagles president Joe Banner said last night. "It's definitely the longest contract I've ever seen. It was 52 pages of just addendums." Neither the Eagles nor Brian Westbrook's agent, Todd France, disclosed terms of the deal, but a source close to the situation said that $13 million is guaranteed this season and next year, and that Westbrook will make $21 million over the next three seasons. The source said the deal also has escalators that could bump Westbrook's salary to $24 million over the first three years of the deal. Banner said the contract was written as a six-year deal, but admitted that it's more likely to be a three- or four-year deal if Westbrook continues to play at the level he has in the previous two seasons.

"Westbrook did not play because he had to go over the details of his new deal shortly before game time. Westbrook didn't join his teammates on the field until the middle of the first quarter."

How sad. Players missing game time now because they are too busy going over their contract. Just about says it all.

I heard he has Lito Shephard proof reading the entire contract - he may not play at all this year !!!

52 pages!? What is NOT in the contract? Lawyers....!! Sorry but offense intended. A trade which fabricated itself and now has nearly paralyzed our society!!

Not Nike's "Just do it.." but how about "Just do the right thing...."

In his contract, if McNabb fails to throw him the ball a minimum 12 times per game, he gets 10% of his paycheck. Also, if the third row of the players wives section has to be repainted before September 1st, he gets free hot dogs for a month. And, if the cast of "Lost" don't reveal anything new before October, he gets controlling rights to the island and 100 drink coupons.

I wonder how many lawyers he had on tap to get this read, and explained to him. Probably the same number it takes to figure out the "fine print" of your credit card application!

Carry the 3, divide by the number of times Westbrook falls down at the 1 yard line, multiply by career injuries... yep, he still makes more money than me. Dammit.

I just hope he stuck something in there about money for me (maybe in an addendum?).

I'm digging a hole, boss . . .
