Detroit Pershing junior combo guard Keith Appling made an oral commitment to Michigan State on Friday. Last season Appling averaged 20.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and three steals per game. Appling is considered a top-50 player for the class of 2010 by recruiting Web sites. He also has offers from Tennessee and Michigan.

He chooses MSU over Michigan in basketball? I've never seen that happen!

Dear Free Press,

Please stop publishing. You never have your details straight. MSU was the only program to offer Appling a scholarship and the only way this kid was not going to play ball for MSU was if Izzo didn't offer him one. Also, please stop calling these types of commitments "ORAL" commitments. That's just ridiculous.

That said, Appling is a pretty nice looking prospect and another good get for Sparty. If he keeps developing over the next two HS seasons he could be a top 10 or 15 prospect.
