Apalachee linebacker Chaun Gresham abruptly switched his commitment from Georgia Tech to South Carolina on Friday. Gresham is the nephew of George Rogers, who won the 1980 Heisman Trophy at South Carolina. However, Gresham, who is a member of the AJC's Super Southern 100 and ranked as the country's No. 47 linebacker by Rivals, said his famous family connection had no effect on switching to the Gamecocks. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Gresham also holds offers from Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, among others.

Only the Atlanta Journal Constitution would label this as "stealing." This paper truly has no conscious. Talk about being homers!

In fact, the kid decided to switch from his non-binding oral commitment. This happens hundreds if not thousands of times every single year. AJC, get over it, just report the news. Don't put your little hometown spin to it.

I didnt know he is George Rogers nephew, thats cool, he looks like a beast.

August 9, 2008  11:00 AM ET

He's probably as smart as George too.

Agree with the King. Lie Georgia Tech hasn't persuaded a young recruit to come there rather than another school.

Lie = like

verbals are just that...non-binding...

August 9, 2008  01:08 PM ET

If he's George Rogers' nephew, he SHOULD go to South Carolina. Good for tradition, and it sounds like he'd be a nice boost for the Gamecocks.

Eyes, I am suprised! No jab at the devil.. Did you drink some thing a stranger gave you. Remember "Stranger Danger", you should be more careful!

I didn't realize that family breeds existed. I guess when selecting athletes these days for college, we have no further to go that the stables.

Maybe he stiffed GT because he wasn't
intellegent enough to make the grades
he would have to make to stay on the team.

August 9, 2008  08:40 PM ET

It's not a steal. Moving on.
