Vlad's future as Angel uncertain

In one corner of the Angels' clubhouse, Francisco Rodriguez all but counts down the days to free agency. In the opposite corner, so does Mark Teixeira. In the middle of the clubhouse, the best player on the team sits on a shelf inside his locker so you can sit on his chair. As Vladimir Guerrero talks, softly, he wants to make his position perfectly clear. He has no desire to test the market, to solicit bids from far and wide, to count down the days until he can become a free agent. He wants to sign a contract extension and finish his career with the Angels. At first glance, this should be a no-brainer for the Angels. You keep your best player. You keep the customers happy. You keep the sellout crowds coming, and the pennants too. But, on second glance, this is not a no-brainer. If the Angels keep Guerrero at any cost, they might look good now and not so good later. So the Angels roar toward October, with the hint of a winter chill to follow. If Guerrero and the Angels do not agree on an extension this winter, the team is expected to exercise its $15-million option for the 2009 season, and he could exercise his option to become a free agent thereafter.

How do you not give Guerrero 20 million after giving Hunter 18 million? He's still the only major force in the Angels lineup, Teixeira or no Teixeira. All that pitching won't do a bit of good if you can't score any runs.

This is when theyre gonna feel the Matthews and Hunter signings.

They need to keep K-Rod, Tex, and Vlad, but they already have 140 mil locked up in Jr and Hunter.

K-Rod and Tex both leave.

Just writer propaganda. Ist Angel Hall of Famer isn't going anywhere

I hope the Angels resign Vlad to an extension, but I won't be surprised if they don't. K-Rod is gone and will be replaced with Shields and or Arredondo. Tex is 50/50.

Cardsfan, Vlad is the only force in the lineup? What are you smoking? Have you seen any of the games? Hunter and Anderson are on fire and since the trade Tex is tearing the cover off the ball. I agree with you though that it will be hard to give Vlad what he deserves this offseason with the bonehead signing of Mathews (hgh) and the expensive signing of Hunter. Arte Moreno is a smart owner though, he won't let Guerrero walk, might let Anderson go though and platoon Rivera and Mathews is left. Tex stays right where he is especially if Moreno starts up his own regional sports network. Just my humble opinion from a guy who has seen every game this season.

the Angels are going to do one of two things... 1. sign vlad to a multi-year deal and make him an Angel for the rest of his career and re-sign john lackey at the end of the 2009 season. 2. let K-Rod go and and make arredondo the new closer then re-sign Tex but cant afford lackey thereafter. i'll eat my hat if they let vlad go.
