Leafs' McCabe may OK trade

Bryan McCabe is beginning to consider a life after the Maple Leafs. According to Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher, the defenseman has softened his stance on his no-movement clause to the point where he'll consider being traded. "Bryan is starting to think about possibly getting his career started somewhere else," said Fletcher. "We'll leave him alone. He's going to get back to us in a couple of weeks. There's not going to be any issues. I'm really confidant it's going to be resolved amicably before training camp." Fletcher wants to continue the housecleaning by trading McCabe ??? buying out McCabe is too expensive an option ??? so they have been working behind the scenes to have the veteran waive his no-trade clause. At one point, it was believed the Leafs would simply ask McCabe to stay home when camp opens in September, forcing his hand. Paul Kelly, executive director of the NHL Players' Association, said the association wouldn't stand for that kind of treatment.

Now, as TSN perspicaciouly reported, all the Leafs need to do is find a team that doesn't have a "no McCabe clause".

Baun-ded. Relax, don't you know that it takes time to consider the options?
I've considered many things too..........then I lay down until the feeling passes

They won't be foolish enough to tell him to stay home.. all they have to do is sit down with him and his agent and tell him... "you either agree to be traded or you dress and play Wade Belak -type minutes". Bingo.

6 mil a year and all i have to do is play belak minutes.... you just added a year to his career.. make his job krap and put him out against the toughest line possible and have him get knocked around a lot.... either he'll get hurt or he'll want to leave....

the Sundin story is officially on my nerves. McCabe being asked/threatened what are these guys thinking. Maybe there is a few high school kids in Toronto they can get to man this team. Or maybe the Leafs can go back to what hasnt worked: recruit and overpay guys that are in the twilight of thier careers. maybe next year......

Living in that nightmare every season. We love to trade young talent and draft picks for worn out hasbens. I don't see biting for this one, but one often guesses how the mind of Sather works.
