Pro Bowl return man Josh Cribbs, who signed a six-year contract for about $6 million in November 2006, is already seeking a new deal from Cleveland. The Browns don't appear to be ready to revisit the contract, so for now, Cribbs will have to settle for something else: The club is developing a special package designed to use all of Cribbs's dynamic skills in its offense.

get a new deal when the old one expires. play ball and the money will be taken care of. need a consistant body of work to get the big bucks. or get drafted really high that works too.

fool....who is this guy? No devin hester!

August 10, 2008  10:06 AM ET

Play and earn your new deal. Show management that you're more than a taller Dante Hall.

August 10, 2008  10:08 AM ET

What the? He has 4 years left on his contract and he's already acting like a 2 year old. "Cry baby" Cribbs needs to have his head examined for crabs. He doesn't want to play at the present contract fine. Fine his a*s*s* 50K every Sunday he refuses until the 4 year deal is completed.

He just thinks 'he's all that and a bag of chips'.
Go sit down, Cribbs.

Mr. Joshua don't pick Forrest Gump to be your agent next time.

Unfortunately, no. But on the bright side, my sleeves don't really reach my 'wrists' either. :-)

I am getting sick and tired of people wanting new deals, they might as well do away with contracts because obviously they don't mean anything. Do as the Rooneys do in Pittsburgh, you play for your current contract until there is one year remaining and then maybe renegotiate, and no negotiating once the season starts

who wants what?

I hate when these guys who go to one pro bowl or had one good year, feel as if they are deserving of high calibur money. I never heard of the guy until I read this article. i think he needs to prove himself more as a consistant player and not a one year wonder before he feels worthy enough for a larger contract.

Josh Cribbs can thank my Steelers' pourous kick coverage teams for his Pro Bowl trip. On the second, yes second, touchdown, in the 31-28 Steelers' win at Heniz Field, Cribbs dropped the ball, had enough time to read "War and Peace" and the "7th Harry Potter" book beforehe scoopedit up at the two and still easily ran through 11 guys for a 98 tard kick return. He owes the Steelers' kickoff team at least 25% of any extra money he gets for making him famous. He also torched them in 06 for a TD.

He's from Kent State.

poor browns fans. team finally sniffs a winning season and all the mememe's are lining up to get renegotiated contracts.

August 10, 2008  04:43 PM ET

Hilarious comment by SteelerinMD's. So true as well. The Steelers had brutal special teams last season as far as return coverage units.

I always been told if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all..*tiptoes quietly out of this story*

After one season? How about really heavily laden incentive contract - pays for great plays and does not pay for average plays. Also based on the team's overall record and playoff record. The PA would never allow it - might be fun to watch though.

August 10, 2008  08:28 PM ET

Browns have to say no after one year. There's a reason why teams pay less for lower round draft pics, and it's partly because they rarely become special. Cribbs at least needs to prove it for 2 years before they even consider giving a new contract. Anyone remember Dante Hall. He was freaking amazing for 6 games and then.... not so much.

It should also be noted that special teams usually take a few weeks before they solidify so there are a ton of blocked kicks, punts and td's in those first few weeks.

You don't want to pay a guy for taking advantage of a natural phenomenon.

August 10, 2008  08:42 PM ET

cribbs is a very very good return guy (he was good before last year, even if you hadn't heard of him) and i think he will develop into an ok WR too. They'll pay him in a year or two, but they can't renegotiate 1 year into a 6 year deal when K2 and Edwards are going to be up for extensions.

new players in the nfl really piss me off. they expect the world because of their draft position or because they had a decent year. honor the contract you signed and play ball. the new generation of players are just whiny and greedy.
