Rice still helping Rutgers recruit
Ray Rice continues to be the gift that keeps on giving for the Rutgers football program. Rice, of course, left after his 2007 junior season as the school's career rushing leading and has been dazzling the Baltimore Ravens' coaches. Meanwhile, his former New Rochelle High School teammate will lead the Scarlet Knights on defense this year. Safety Courtney Greene, a preseason Thorpe Award candidate, is one of four defensive captains. Five years ago Greene was looking at Syracuse, Buffalo and Clemson. Rutgers hadn't looked at him. "There was a coaching clinic at my high school and coach [Greg] Schiano asked Ray if I had signed with anyone," Greene said yesterday at the team's media day. "He said they should look at me." Schiano and his staff looked and were blown away by what they saw. Greene, who has matured into a 6-foot-2, 215-pound, in-your-face defender, has started every game since he came to Rutgers.

A small time market that no one cares about. Unless your from the Saprano's and live in Jersey.

The Star Ledger had this exact same story A YEAR AGO with nearly the same exact quotes...
DEVO, your comments above are interesting and totally understandable. The specter of RU football is a tough one for outsiders to grasp. Rutgers is located in a Major media market and has always been. The interesting thing is that major media market (New York media) only latched on in the last three years. New Jersey's Newark Star Ledger has provided comprehensive coverage of the Rutgers football program for many many years. What you're now seeing is the NY Post and NY Daily News arriving too too late to the bandwagon. All you'll need is a losing season and no bowl game for RU this year which is totally possible and this all goes away. Hope this makes sense to you DEVO.
But nothing does in New Jersey, so I understand if you're still scratching your head.

I thought that Alumnists of a University could not help their previous alma mater recruit if they are not enrolled in classes there. Wasn't that part of the recruiting investigation about Joe McKnight talking to R. Bush on 3-Way w/Pete Carroll, as well as when UNC-MCB some former players came back one summer & were trying to recruit in order to help Roy Williams which had to report a recruiting violation.

Good for him. More players should do that.

lendaleusc06,
The title of the article may be misleading. Ray Rice and Courtney Green graduated in the same year from New Rochelle. While Rutgers was recruiting Ray Rice, Ray told them to look at Greene too. Now, Courtney Green is one of the best safties in college football. This is in no way like what happened on the left coast.
