Vick may play in upstart UFL

The United Football League is scheduled to kick off -- and I use "scheduled'' because one never knows what can happen with startup leagues -- a year from now, with a season that will last until Thanksgiving. Commissioner Michael Huyghue said there will be six teams: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Orlando, New York and Hartford. Yes, Mark Cuban will be one of the owners, as, apparently, will be the Wilpon group of New York. The New York team, interestingly, will play at the new Citi Field, home of the Mets. The big news, I suppose, from my talk with Huyghue was this: He said the chances of a UFL team signing Michael Vick to play the 2009 season are "98 percent.'' Strange percentage, but that's what he said. "Michael's not going to be able to walk right back into the NFL,'' Huyghue said. "He's going to need some kind of buffer before he signs in the NFL, and we'll be able to provide that for him.''

Go ahead and let the brother play. The greyhound business is still doing it's thing and people turn their head to that industry. Everything is relevant and this boy pretty much got the shaft. That's the truth. Nothing is perfect, not you - not me - not him. Get over it and be real.

Nothing wrong with that, do your time and work your way back up to the NFL, if he still has it and is sincere about gaining back the respect of his peers this would be a great start. Then again there is always Dallas!

The NFL has drug dealers, users, wife beaters, and a person who killed a woman while drunk. If this league wants Vick, I see no problem with it.

How many of these 'upstart' football leagues have come and gone in recent years? I can think of three. Yeah, good luck with that.

I thikn he'll be ready to go straight to the NFL. He will probably have to serve a six game suspension first though.

Hardford hasn't seen a quality dog fighting ring in a while. He'll be a good fit

Will they let him play with the ankle moniter on? he broke the law, weather or not everyone thinks he was doing something bad or not, he broke the rules and now does the time. I did not think he was that good of a QB anyway so have fun playing in a D-league while in a half way house. the ones i feel sorry for is Atlanta. it will take them years to undo what this guy did. this reminds me of what Leaf did to the Chargers, one man can destroy a franchise.

If the NFL kept people out the league who broke the law, how many players would they have?

August 11, 2008  08:20 AM ET

I think he should go to the Browns---He will love the fans chanting.. WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!!!!!!

August 11, 2008  08:31 AM ET

If he does end up signing I would make sure to get my money up front because this league aint gonna make it. The only way for this to survive is to start in April when we miss football and end by August before the real ball starts.

true ... they were supposed to start up this past spring and never made it ...

Hey Vaughn, it seems like the Chargers have recovered nicely after the Leaf debacle, thank you very much. "Whether" or not he plays in the UFL, he will not be required to wear a "monitor". He may have contributed to the problems in Atlanta, but it certainly did not help that Petrino quit 13 games into the season. Atlanta will turn around sooner than you predict, that is for sure.

You also seem to have an incredible knowledge base of the prison love scene.

His suspension is "indefinite" and requires submitting for reinstatement. He will probably be suspended for a full year, consistent with the others.

I am sure that Jerry Jones will sign him. Mike and Adam can go over to TO's houses and work out in the front yard.
