Yankees prospect annoys teammates

Ian Kennedy packed a lot of common sense into the luggage that accompanied him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre yesterday. Kennedy, one of the pitchers the Yankees refused to trade as part of the Johan Santana deal and who was handed the No. 5 starting spot in spring training, was optioned for the third time this year. Lefty reliever Billy Traber was recalled from SWB. At no time was a demotion more deserving than yesterday's. Not only did Kennedy get rocked Friday night, but also his postgame "I am not too upset about it" comments annoyed teammates. Kennedy, who gave up five runs and nine hits in two-plus innings, said a talk with Andy Pettitte made him realize the words didn't sound good. "It came out wrong. I was very disappointed with myself. I always want to do well," Kennedy said. "I had seven innings to think about it. I hate losing but I wasn't going to let it ruin what I had done recently (at Triple-A)." Pettitte was among those who took Kennedy aside.

... and what do you think the Yankees would do with a pouting, team quitting, senior citizen tossing Manny Ramirez?

As I've said before, the Yankees maintain the highest professional decorum in the club house and I, a die hard BoSox fan, believe Manny is the ultimate anti-Yankee.

I gues what he was doing was looking at the positive aspect of his previous starts in AAA. OK and now it was a poor choice of words. But it will not be because of his words, it will be his actions on the mound that will or will not get him traded in the off season.

This isn't Fannation, this is typical NY Media bull crap. They are making a mountain out of a molehill. He admitted he had a bad outing but wasn't going to let it bother him. What is he supposed to do, commit suicide?

The NY Sports Media sucks.

ian idiot was delusional in his comments.

Not sure the term "highest professional decorum" should be applied to the Yankee clubhouse when one considers the number of players with PED stains that have run through there in recent years.

Not singling out the Yanks either.....the term most likely should not be applied to ANY clubhouse for the same reason for a few years...

When the PEDs, and the players who used them to cheat, are completely gone we can revisit the term

Maybe the Yanks should worry about more important things, like, I don't know, hitting with runners in scoring position. Seems to work for the Angels. Give it a try.

Yankees suck

August 11, 2008  08:25 AM ET

It's not just his teammates. I found him to be quite annoying myself this weekend.

Morning RSB - I went and looked for my punishment, but it's not there! I sent an FM, and await her reply ...

Well whether it is the NY press or not making a mountian out of a mole hill I am not sure but i do know MIchael Kay, one of the announcers on YES, was distinguishing between a true "professional " like" Andy Pettitte and a "wanna be" like Kennedy. I think there some udnerlying essence of truth lying beneath the surface here regarding Mr. Kennedy. Hopefully, he understands tha twhen you speak you should sepak with forethought because you are, first ,resposnble for what yo usay and, second, your words often reveal unerlying truths that even you yourself might not be aware that exist. Playing the game of baseball at the MLB level requires a lot of attitude and a certain amount of balls. I hate to say this because Kay used this play to iilustrtate his point about Kennedy but Pettitte showed that attitude when he made that play to get the guy at first as the ball richocheted off him and he then went and got the ball and was able to get off a throw to first whlie laying on the ground to get the runner.
Maybe, as some one suggested over the weekend, Kennedy is one of those destined to be a joureny man who are always just bubbling beneath the surface who will be a Triple AAAA pitcher at best. Baseball is strewn with these guys with broken dreams of making the big time. I hope not but the early indicators are sure beginning to appear that way.

Field Marshall Sunny Day | 08/11/08, 08:49 AM

Hmmm, yes, that's certainly a viable option ... or they could send him to eat at the same buffet Issac Hayes and Bernie Mac had on the set of the movie they recently shot together...
