Boozer won't rule out Europe

With big-bucks, multi-year deals recently drawing NBA players like Josh Childress and Carlos Arroyo to play international ball overseas, could Carlos Boozer be drawn away by foreign interests? Boozer, who is eligible to opt out of the final season of his six-year, $68-million contract next offseason, said he would be open to all offers - including with a foreign team. "As a business decision, we definitely would have to look at it," said Boozer, in Beijing as a second-time Olympian. "But it doesn't mean that you're on the next flight out." He said he would "absolutely" consider the possibility, "if my wife was down with it and the money was right."

This is becoming to be a non-story. Of course any NBA playere won't rull out playing somewhere else especially if they are getting more money. It's all about "Money". All the best players in the world already admitted to saying yes if they were offered big bucks. Kobe, Lebron, & D-Wade already said they would.

And you can't compare the $ to the Euro dollare because it's American dollar straight up or else it's not worth it. Why go to Europe for maybe 50 million Euro dollar when it's almost equevalent to what they are going to make here.

You can't believe any thing a ex-Duke player says. of course they all are considering Europe, it gives them leverage with thier teams for more money.

Are you sure? Isn't the Euro stronger than the dollar? I think 1 euro = 1.5 us dollars.

ok first of all, i don't think these players are just coming outta nowhere saying they'd play in Europe. I'm almost positive they're being asked if they would consider it and they're answering candidly.

Guam Baller are you serious? $50 million Euro is almost $75 million USD. Get your facts straight.

The ONLY US player (relatively significant) that has gone to Europe is Josh Childress. And he did it with very little fuss or comments or publicity. He got good money, he took it and left. I've met Josh 2-3 times and he's an extremely smart man. Good for him.

The rest of the herd here (aka Boozer) are just trying to get their value higher in the FA market. If they DO want to goto Europe, just go, no need to start talking about it right now.

I hope the whole Euro talk won't be a distraction to the US team in Olympics. If they lose, everyone that spoke about contracts, should be barred from entering the US border; Stop over and just stay in Europe.

I'm pretty sure anyone wouldn't rule out 50 million tax-free Euros for a year. Get some real news...

Why should we care what Boozer says..yawnnnnn

Man you can't read. I made a mistake w/ the conversion, but I said that " you can't compare the $ to the Euro dollare because it's American dollar straight up or else it's not worth it. " Just as long as it's $50 in US dollars or more then that would be okay.

I think we're just running down every single big-name player in the NBA right now... and creating a story for them by just replacing their names in the exact same story...

Pretty soon the story will be "Smush Parker considers Europe an option." When that day comes, it'll be a sad sad day.... A better story would be "Europe and the NBA D-League pass on obtaining Smush Parker."

August 11, 2008  09:47 AM ET

Go Already! You suck Carlos!

August 11, 2008  09:51 AM ET

The Olympics are going on, they have been briefed i am sure to say these things regardless of what their true feelings are. On that note, not saying many of them would entirely rule it, just trying to be sensible about the situation.

August 11, 2008  09:52 AM ET

And everyone places too much value in the conversion rates. The dollar is still more powerful than the Euro, despite trading for less. The real value of money is in how much goods or services you can buy using an equal amount of money. Just because someone buys a PS3 in Japan for 60,000 yen doesn't mean we're better off here buying it for 600 USD. Converted down 60,000 yen is 577 USD, so their money is worth more.

So when you go to Europe, and you buy some clothes or a TV or a movie, and you pay MORE in Euros than what it would cost here in the states, just remember, the Euro is "worth more" to help you deal with it. After all, Batman Begins is 24.99 on Blu Ray in Euros, it's also 17.95 USD, which translates to 17.95 vs 39.59.... so tell me now, what currency is worth more?

OK people enough is enough. What these guys are talking about is USD. If one goes to Europe and get 50 Million they are talking about 50M in USD. Not 50M Euro. This is not rocket science. One would have to consider it if the money is right.

So what you're saying is they're only going to be making 31,559,639.51 Euros... and still have to pay nearly double for every single thing they purchase, including housing.... that sounds brilliant. They better start asking for 50 million Euro tax free....

no body said they'ld offer 50 mill euros, they said 50 million dollars! Second its 50 million dollars tax free with living expenses so almost an extra 5 and in the nba the max is 20mil- 50%

August 11, 2008  10:12 AM ET

No one is going to rule out Europe. I doubt these bigger names are going to go in the prime of their career but they would be foolish to at least not listen to a top dollar offer.

August 11, 2008  10:16 AM ET

we are talking about 10 million vs 50 million!!! and im pretty sure i'ld be able to manage with that considering that the avg income is 30,000. what normal person is gonna turn away from a 40 mill dollar pay raise?!?!
