Cavs might be pursuing Mo Williams

It's been a relatively uneventful summer for the Cavaliers. All that could change if a three-team trade rumor has any substance to it. A league source said the Cavs might be pursuing Bucks point guard Mo Williams. All the details aren't known, but the Cavs, Bucks and Oklahoma City (formerly Seattle) are reportedly involved. Bucks general manager John Hammond has made it known he has no intention of parting with shooting guard Michael Redd, a longtime target of the Cavs. Perhaps Cavs general manager Danny Ferry went for the next best thing. If Williams is headed to the Cavs, however, would Delonte West be included in such a deal? He's a restricted free agent who has been a regular at Cleveland Clinic Courts for much of the summer. It wouldn't make any sense to have Williams and West on the same roster since both expects to be starters.

Danny Ferry keeps trying but, once again, he seems to be coming up short on the talent side.

Mo Williams is better than Delonte West. If the cavs don't constantly make moves until something works they are just begging LeBron to leave.

August 11, 2008  10:09 AM ET

I'm pretty sure if the Cavs wanted Williams, they'd have to get Dan Gadzuric's contract as well. But if a trade ever goes down, I see it being something like this.....

Desmond Mason, Dan Gadzuric, and Mo Williams for Deltone West, Anderson Varejao, Sasha Pavlovic, and Damon Jones.

C - Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Dan Gadzuric
PF - Ben Wallace, Joe Smith, Darnell Jackson
SF - LeBron James, J.J. Hickson
SG - Wally Szczerbiak, Desmond Mason, Tarence Kinsey
PG - Mo Williams, Daniel Gibson, Eric Snow

C - Andrew Bogut, Andersen Varejao
PF - Charlie Villanueva, Joe Alexander, Malik Allen
SF - Richard Jefferson, Sasha Pavlovic, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
SG - Michael Redd, Charlie Bell, Damon Jones
PG - Delonte West, Ramon Sessions, Tyronn Lue

How does this convince LeBron to stay? Danny Ferry has to make a swing for the fences move sooner or later.

August 11, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Nobody wants to play in beautiful Cleveland. They would rather LBJ leave there for greener pasteurs.

He was mine too. I can't believe that he died.

Also, shocked about Isaac Hayes. That man wrote and sang some good music.

Right on HOVA. Ferry has slept pass all the free agent activity for the 2nd year in a row. The people that could have made a difference in Cleveland, he has allowed to go elsewhere. James Posey is from 10 minutes away.from Quicken Loans Arena. I just hope that Dan Gilbert doesn't wait until LeBron's taillights disappear before firing his arse.

"It's been a relatively uneventful summer for the Cavaliers. "

LBJ does NOT want to hear that.......

August 11, 2008  11:00 AM ET

Ferry has to step up and do something. He has to show LeBron that he's trying to make something happen.

The deal they did at last year's deadline was admirable but I don't see Ben Wallace and Wally being the kind of help that LeBron really needs.

Mo Williams? Give me a damn break.

August 11, 2008  11:23 AM ET

West has given them quality play at the point. He may not be an All-Star, but he has stepped up and done an admirable job. Meanwhile Ferry will risk losing him, rather than give him a 3 or 4 year deal, while paying Eric freakin Snow $7.3 million for less than 14 minutes a game. It's time for a shake-up in Cleveland, and if Ferry can't get it done, Gilbert needs to find someone that can. The Cavs can do without a point guard. They need scoring in the front court. They made the same mistake Chicago made. Ben Wallace is not a low post threat on the offensive end of the floor. It was a huge mistake to get rid of Drew Gooden.

August 11, 2008  11:36 AM ET

Ferry is the problem. He cant get a deal done.

He should have a great oppurtunity with Sczerbiaks expeing contract.

If he cant make a deal with that....................

August 11, 2008  11:37 AM ET

whats the problem with Mo Williams? His 17ppg are better than Kidd (10.8) and Bibby(13.9), both players of which the Cavs openly coveted. They need scoring threat out there with LeBron. Mo can bring that to the table... 6 assists per game is nice too. He'd be the best PG the Cavs have seen since Andre Miller

Danny Ferry is a ****,.

You lose Andre Miller,Drew Gooden.

Imagine if he knew how to keep a team in tact?

Your looking at miller,james,gooden,boozer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Get your facts stright... Andre Miller was gone years before Ferry became the Cavs GM... Drew Gooden is way too inconsistant some nights he'd be great and other nights he would show up and look completely lost... not the answer to winning a championship

August 11, 2008  11:59 AM ET

Mo Will doesnt improve them dramatically...........

Very true !!! I also loved his character "Chef " on South Park. That one episode when he sang a song called "Salty Balls" was hilarious !!!
