Red Sox like Rangers catcher

The Rangers might provide the Red Sox a chance to acquire a young catcher this offseason. The Sox really like Taylor Teagarden, a righthanded hitter, but the Rangers might hang on to him. That could allow the Rangers to deal Jarrod Saltalamacchia to the Sox. The Sox tried to acquire Saltalamacchia at last season's trading deadline, but the big switch-hitting catcher went to Texas from Atlanta in the Mark Teixeira deal. The Sox might just have to give up a top pitching prospect to solidify their future catching depth.

The Sox need to acquire a catcher of the future, then sign Varitek to a two-year deal. This could do it.

I've been talking about Teagarden for almost a year now. He's buried on the Ranger's depth chart at like 3rd or 4th catcher so he'd come cheaper than Salty.

Like like? or just like?

August 11, 2008  10:55 AM ET

I would give up Salty for a good pitching prospect since the Rangers are stacked at every other position.

you mean the Red sox's might want someone else to catch other then TEK.. that guy sucks, they should release TEK and find another catcher as of now.

August 11, 2008  11:07 AM ET

tek is the man. salty would be a great backup/next in line though. learing from the most prepared catcher in the leaguewold make him great

they finally realized vtek sucks?

Oh yeah...love trading with the Red Sox. You guys can have Salty and we'll take Dice K for him...sound good?

August 11, 2008  12:43 PM ET

Teagarden is off limits. He and Ramirez are our guys for the future.

Salty for Khris Johsohn and its a deal

August 11, 2008  01:11 PM ET

the sox may want to let their pitchers bat and start DHing for Varitek.

August 11, 2008  01:44 PM ET

You have wisdom of monumental proportions

August 11, 2008  02:24 PM ET

Name one catcher who has caught more no hitters than Tek

August 11, 2008  03:22 PM ET

Name one catcher who is uglier than Varitek

August 11, 2008  03:24 PM ET

joe girardi. didn't he catch two perfect games?

August 11, 2008  03:25 PM ET

i'm not knocking varitek. he's had a decent career. he may be a good defensive catcher, but he can't hit worth a crap. and teams today can't afford to have a lack of hitting in too many positioins. right now the sox have that problem in three areas right up the middle. Catcher, SS and CF. The bottom of that lineup is crap.
