Michigan RB gets snaps at QB

Michigan running back Carlos Brown is drawing attention at quarterback. Asked about his opportunity, he was hesitant. "I'm a running back, so that's all I'll say," Brown said, before saying a bit more. "I was a quarterback in high school. I don't do it a lot. I just flash back there and feel comfortable when I'm back there." His ability to run contrasts the style of primary quarterbacks Steven Threet and Justin Feagin. But, as Brown said, he is a running back. And that's the position he'll probably be most important, competing with Brandon Minor for lead-back status now that Brown has recovered after missing most of the spring with a finger injury. According to both players, there also have been moments in practice where both were in the backfield, so expecting one to have a Mike Hart-level of carries is unlikely.

Michigan needs as many QB's as they can. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the kickers get some time taking snaps as QB!

Carlos Brown is quick. He will find a key spot in the new offense.

August 11, 2008  08:48 AM ET

They'll do some direct snaps to the guy.

Don't have a mobile QB for your spread option offense? Use the wild-hog offense.

Can you say DESPERATE........

August 11, 2008  10:09 AM ET

It's a good move. Carlos Brown was a good high school quarterback in Georgia. Plus, nothing wrong with RR finding out now if the kid can handle some snaps at the QB position in college.

Big trouble in the Big House this year???

August 11, 2008  10:17 AM ET

Is this the best we've got today?

Man I cant wait til kick off this midless stuff is killing me!

August 11, 2008  10:21 AM ET

I can't wait either xxx84xxx. It may be a rough year for the Wolverines but I still can't wait for August 30.

August 11, 2008  10:24 AM ET

Well atleast it can only get better, after last year's hopes and disappointing start, all you have to do is win a couple and get to the conference.

August 11, 2008  10:32 AM ET

Plenty of room in that backfield, I say leave no stone unturned!!!!! Heck, if the singlewing works run it!

August 11, 2008  10:47 AM ET

Yeah, when I played as Michigan on NCAA football '09, I couldn't move the ball until I put in the mobile QB w/ an overall rating of 68.

August 11, 2008  10:49 AM ET

the starting QB was injurred, so that made my decision to put in the mobile guy easier.

August 11, 2008  10:49 AM ET

The clock is ticking on Dick Rod. Tick, tick, tick, tick.
The old regime at Michigan, that would be the fat cats with the big pockets, are simply not going to tolerate this. You have got to believe that Lloyd is laughing his tail off right now.

OSU-Mich game is a shutout. Michigan is going to be last year's Notre Dame.

I hate that for real. When you have a team with a spread offense and you can't run the ball with an immobile QB. When I play in Dynasty mode, I don't even go after QB's who run over 4.6 because of that.

Okay Big Ten, Michigan just announced it will use trick plays featuring Carlos Brown. Anything else you want to give out...eh?
