Cowboys, Bears scouting Simms
For 20 minutes, he was a football player again. Not a rehab case. Not a disgruntled employee. Not a trading chip. Chris Simms had an entire field in front of him and was anxious to put the past behind. As auditions go, this was a keeper. Simms was effective by most standards, and pretty darned impressive when you consider it was his first extensive playing time in nearly two years. He completed 8 of 10 passes for 60 yards and a 91.7 QB rating on his three possessions, and he drove the Bucs to one touchdown and one missed field goal. For Simms, the results are probably incidental. If he continues to play well, maybe another team is willing to give up a fifth-round draft pick in a trade. (Among the teams with scouts in the press box Saturday night were the Bears and Cowboys, both of whom seem to have interest in Simms.)

Did you see Brad Johnson Saturday night? Has no mobility what so ever. Army strength was OK. Actually, the second string pretty much sucked. As did special teams.

Yes, the Cowboys need to scout ANY QB after what I witnessed Saturday night! If Romo gets hurt WE will be "hurt-ing"!

I defer to the judgment of 3 Cowboy's fans. They seem to think Simms should go to Dallas.

Chris needs to quit being so cocky and try to play in the NFL. So far he hasn't shown any one he is capable of playing yet let alone being good enough to bad mouth the team he plays for!!!

The guy wants a chance to start. He knows he can only be a back up in Dallas. The Bucs may not want to move him if he plays well enough. Not for a fifth rounder anyways.
I was surprised that the Cowboys did not try to upgrade at the back up QB spot before this. They have problems there.

The Cowboys need a backup to Romo. Brad Johnson sucked eggs when he played. He is past his prime and we need a a semi compitant back up.

If Romo gets hurt this year, the Boys are in trouble. Johnson looked horrible, and Bartel just isn't ready. I really wish they would have kept Matt Moore last year and let Johnson go. That said, Simms isn't the answer. He'll be just like he was at UT...the other team's best player.
