Bruins to extend Thomas?

With both Tim Thomas and Manny Fernandez entering the final year of their contracts, the Bruins have a game plan to address their goaltending in 2009-10 and beyond. At this point, it would make sense to extend the 34-year-old Thomas, especially if Tuukka Rask isn't ready for the NHL in 2009-10. Thomas, in the last season of a contract worth an annual $1.1 million, would most likely be seeking a multiyear extension - with a raise, of course.

That's a good plan... Tukka Rask have a great future ahead of him .... He will be so good

don't know why we picked up Manny in the first place. Keep Thomas for sure..............!!

Thomas had a save percentage of .930% at the 65% pole of the season but started to come back to earth. Thomas is definately a game stealer at times. Some games we had no business being in but we came away with the victory PRECISELY because of Timmy's play. He just never ever gives up on a play. Only 3-4 goalies had a better save percenatge than this guy last year. He's a solid goalie. The only bad thing about him is the consistency factor.

Who's more valuable to the team? Savard? Chara? Thomas? Thomas with-out a doubt.

Oh yeah........sign the goalie that plays the best this season. Rask can play back-up next year.

August 11, 2008  04:57 PM ET

Let go of Fernandez, keep Thomas and have Rask back up..., I am still ticked that Toronto traded Rask! He and Tosk would be a great duo up here for years!

Yeah, that Ferguson guy wasnt too bright. Where's he wroking now anyways? Oh yeah,Baun-ded said he ran into him stalking the shelves at Wal-Mart. Hhahhahaha. Or was he actually trying to steal?

Hhahahhahahaha. I just realized something. "working" "stocking". I guess i am the one thats not too bright,eh? I think i need some coffee.

good move. He was very good last season.

Fernandez and Thomas are in the last years of their contracts. Manny sucked last year. He got injured right off the cuff to boot. We traded for him there Lucic dude. I agree that it was a bad move.

Chara.
Without a doubt.

What a deluded story...I've been a Bruins fan since the Orr days, and never thought I would see the words contract extension and raise used in the same paragraph.
After all, this is the same owner that was approached by Bourque in his prime. Bourque, acting as his own agent, left it up to the owner to put down what salary he felt Bourque deserved. So of course Jacobs put a salary near the league minimum...as if Thomas would be offered anything.
Until Jacobs sells or dies, nothing will change in Boston

You must not really be in tune then whats going on Spaul, because there is a salary cap and the Bruins are pretty much maxed out so as far as spending money they have been spending and not only on roster but coaching and front office, with the likes of Don Sweeney, Cam Neely, ect. but they do deserve to be labeled, but give them a chance they are actually getting it trust me, have ties to organization and they really want to win, I mean at pretty much all costs and I am talking about ownership

Thomas without a doubt!!!

August 13, 2008  01:59 PM ET

they are all without a doubt. chara, savard, thomas, whoever. one guys doesnt work without the other. we need a guy at every position, or the train will not be in motion.

by the way, did you all see how thornton didnt make team canada? so glad we dont have him anymore. guy dies in the playoffs..not a clutch player.
marc savard, clutch. sturm,...clutch. this team is better off with joe.

I dont know one bruins fan that likes Fernandez....especially since he was our greatest bench warmer of last season. I wish the B's kept Alex Auld, he was a great relief for Tim last year!

Yea, but Manny is a proven #1 and lets play it out and see what he can give them, if anything they might be showcasing him if healthy he can get you something good if a team is desperate for goaltending as evidence with Toronto when they needed a NHL ready goalie in Raycroft and gave us someone they really did not want to part with but had no choice in Rask
