Possible Hawks free-agent targets

Two intriguing names keep popping up on my Hawks radar in terms of free agents (not named Smith finally) that are still floating around. Jannero Pargo and Shaun Livingston. Pargo is a scoring machine that has bounced around the league and produced everywhere he's been (most recently in New Orleans). He's available and would give whatever team he joins a scoring boost off the bench. He's also a former college teammate of Joe Johnson's from Arkansas (he was at Johnson's celebrity weekend last month in Tunica, Miss.) and from what I understand still one of his closest friends. Livingston is a guy I've always thought could be spectacular in the right situation.

Probably won't happen. They will have too many PG. They have Mike Bibby and the promising PG Acie Law IV. They need other positiions.

The Hawks need a bonified veteran NBA star to put fans in the seats and bring some experience to a young inexperienced squad! Preferably someone who can help hide Woodson's inability to coach since they just resigned him!

AC Law unfortunately is a bust , and NO they don't have any other good PGs as stated above. Lets see, Bibby starts, then --> Salim Stoudamire, AC Law, Speedy (no speed) claxton. That's your bench of PGs?
I'did take Pargo ANYDAY over these slouches.

August 11, 2008  09:50 AM ET

You can't say AC Law is a bust yet. Give him time.

August 11, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Shaun Livingston is cheaper, and I would take him now because they'll just have to give Acie Law one more chance this season to show them he is a reliable PG. Then, if that doesn't work, Livingston can come in and Bibby won't be there. He will be healthy and they could start him, with a cheap price tag.

August 11, 2008  10:14 AM ET

I'd probably take a run at Pargo.

August 11, 2008  10:53 AM ET

Sign Livingston.......He can play PG/SG/SF, 3 positions and give you different looks......Sign him to a low ball incentive based contract and see what happens, low risk investment

August 11, 2008  10:57 AM ET

pargo- yes.
Livingston NO WAY
he has been so injury prone- you can't afford to take a chance on him if you are a middle of the pack team that NEEDS good decisions.
or else you can go south real quick

August 11, 2008  11:01 AM ET

Yeah. Livingston probably needs to take this season off to ensure that his injuries heal. Either that or go the D-League or Europe route for a year to prove to NBA teams that he can play.

I just don't see anyone willing to take the risk on him right now, even if it wouldn't cost them much to do so.

August 11, 2008  11:40 AM ET

Livingston is a huge risk. HUGE. I can't quite figure why Pargo is being allowed to walk from New Orleans. Especially while the Hornets are trying to sign Ryan Bowen. This makes no sense at all..

August 11, 2008  12:36 PM ET

Not happening unless they are looking to trade... one of the PG's they have Bibby, Law, Stoudamire

August 11, 2008  01:09 PM ET

livingston still needs a chance.

hmmmmm maybe you can't, but yes I can !!!!
Looks like you missed the rocky mountain league games of the hawks bro. Take it from me, he's a bust.
Time and money better spent elsewhere; Sign Pargo, you need him

August 11, 2008  03:48 PM ET

I think that ATL needs another big man ... Pachulia is good but not good enough and Horfords development is being hold as far as he is being use as a C.
They could try to offer Law + Salim + 1 second round draftpick for Haslem (MIA) so they get a big man that can play C (even do he is not a legit one) and let Horford become a force in PF.
That would also give them the spot to sign either of the 2: Pargo & Livingstone.

August 11, 2008  06:21 PM ET

None of these players will be good for ATL.. they need to develop the young guns they have and not distrupt their growth and chemistry...

August 11, 2008  06:32 PM ET

If any team can get Livingston at a bargain price---he would be worth the risk. The guy has a ton of talent--he was guarding Steve Nash in the playoffs two years ago and doing a decent job for god's sake. His jumper has always been a bit suspect but with his size, length and playmaking ability if he stays healthy he'll be an excellent pick up.

Whoever said Law is a bust knows NOTHING about the NBA..period...Look back at some of the greatest NBA players in history..Clyde Drexler, Scottie Pippen..etc. They all had slow starts and then blew up.

August 11, 2008  10:40 PM ET

Scoring machine? I haven't even heard of the guy except for this article!! My friend Derek was a scoring machine to, I think he had a new girl every night.

Please man, don't crack me up!! Are you high?? Drexler and Pippen and AC Law is supposed to be in the same league.
I shouldn't even respond to your lunacy but i am 'coz I was the one that said Law was a bust.
Now, he can certainly prove me wrong with an improved performance. But to compare them with Clyde or Scottie is complete insanity.
