Bruins try out Olson's replacement

Chris Forcier is finding that greater responsibility will bring greater scrutiny. His status was elevated considerably Sunday, as the Bruins learned that starting quarterback Ben Olson would be lost for at least eight weeks after breaking the fifth metatarsal, the bone that connects to the little toe, in his right foot for the second time in four months. The Bruins are staging a quarterback competition three weeks before the season opener against Tennessee. Craft, a transfer from Mt. San Antonio College, and Forcier, a redshirt freshman, will get close looks in the coming weeks, with junior Osaar Rasshan seemingly a longshot candidate. The competition became necessary after Olson faked a handoff Saturday, then took a misstep. Olson will decide in the next few days whether to again have a screw placed in the foot to help it heal. The projected recovery time is the same whether he has the surgery or not. But even after eight weeks, Olson still would have to get into playing shape, as well as brush up on the new system being installed by offensive coordinator Norm Chow. Still, he was adamant that his career at UCLA was not over.

If there was anyone that had a good reason to take growth hormone it would be Olson. The kid can't catch a break, no pun intended.

Ben Olson has to be the most snake-bit QB ever. Kid comes out of high school with tremendous hype. Goes on a Mormon Mission which takes two years from him, then he leaves BYU to go to UCLA where he for the love of GOD, can't remain healthy.

Nice comb-over, keep it classy!

That's Ricky: wrote the book on class. In fact he oozes class. On second thought, he just oozes.

ouch, no luck. on a more positive note, forcier could be groomed into a very nice qb if he gets the nod and spends a few years under chow. only SEC fans cheer when an opponent loses a key player.

honestly it's probably better for Chow to take one of the younger kids and start grooming him. Gonna be a tough year for us Bruins but the future looks very bright.

Well, look on the bright side. There could be some surprises. All bets are off, after all, when USC and UCLA play. (That game is worth it every year if only for the cheerleaders.) Plus, there is interest in how Newhassenpfeffer will coach, how Norm will lead the offense, who plays well etc. It's not always about winning losing and UCLA should at least be entertaining in this sort of rebuilding year.

Hmmm, wonder why Rasshan's not catching any love from the coaching staff...

good thing chow is overrated and UGLY will suck for years to come. All chow did at USC was call the plays. He migth have been able to develop their QB's if they had any more left/any talent at the position. sucks for UCLA and Neuweasel

Chow is over-rated. Right. And monkeys fly out of my rear.
USC's offense has been farily stagnant after Chow left. Everyone knows that.
