Plaxico sits as contract talks stall

Plaxico Burress doesn't envision a new contract coming his way this season, and coincidentally, of course, he isn't in any hurry to start practicing with the Giants as he rests a sore right ankle. Speaking with reporters yesterday for the second time since training camp opened, Burress called negotiations "long gone" and sounded resigned to the fact he'll be playing under the six-year contract he signed before the 2005 season. Burress, who is scheduled to make $3.25 million this year, sought an increase that would have more than doubled his salary.

if you squint he almost looks like keving garnett

August 11, 2008  09:55 AM ET

wait...nevermind

August 11, 2008  09:57 AM ET

You mean he might have to actual honor the contract he signed a few years ago? About time some team had the balls to stand up and say, we have your signature right here saying you agree to play for this amount through 2011. We will talk again then.

This T & R makes it sound as though he's sitting because he can't get what he wants. pfft :p

*Huge Giants fan here*

Plax is our number one offensive threat and we are near anemic without him, now we don't even have Shockey, so he is what makes our offense go and needs to be paid like the face of our offense.

Does anyone know what our recievers look like without him?
1. Still good but 48 year old Amani Toomer
2. Completely inconsistent Steve Smith.
3. Iffy iffy Sinorice Moss
4. Ridiculously inconsistent yet lucky David Tyree
5. Mario Manningham the Michigan pothead.

Which one of those guys is going to carry the load if we hadn't had Plax.

Pay Him.

what a punk **** this guy is.

August 11, 2008  11:31 AM ET

I agree with Ryan.

The Giants need to pay up.

August 11, 2008  11:31 AM ET

That's my boy Plax!

August 11, 2008  12:11 PM ET

Ship him to Europe with the backetball players. You want more, go to the land of plenty, and the Euro.

August 11, 2008  12:32 PM ET

I agree with Ryan and Travis.

I mean, when Plax signed his name to this current contract and gave his word, there was no way that he could have known that the price of gas would hit $4 a gallon, not to mention the increased cost of food and the sub-prime mortgage collapse. What a bunch of stupid jerks the Giants are being for expecting him to keep his word. I mean, a brother's gotta eat, and 3.25 million for 6 months work just won't do it. Poor guy...maybe his parents can loan him some money or something to help him get by.

August 11, 2008  12:33 PM ET

Hey Iamrighturwrong, nice try at trying to sound all cerebral but it sounds like u just regurgitated the words of all talk show radio host around the world. Pay Plax his money, in this day and age of spoiled wide recievers Plax seems to be handling it pretty well, so don't try to make HIM sound as though he's asking for too much here, he's grossly underpaid anyway.

Dear Plaxico if you were even as good as Ocho Stinko I could understand your displeasure - BUT YOUR NOT !!!
Sincerely, Ocho Stinko

Quit signing 6 year deal, when you all know you won't like the deal 3 years in. Sign a 1 or 2 yr and go from there. Also don't tell me you have to take care of your family because so do the rest of us...........with a lot less "dough" ri mi

August 11, 2008  02:37 PM ET

He needs to get rid of Drew.

August 11, 2008  02:43 PM ET

No class. Seriously. Giant fans can run their mouth all they want. Plaxico needs to wake up and smell the ****.

August 11, 2008  02:45 PM ET

oh yeah, Dude, lose that filthy little devil beard.

August 11, 2008  03:23 PM ET

In Pittsburgh we called him Plaxiglass for his ability to choke under pressure. Despite the Giants upset last season he is still over rated and not a receiver I would want to have to make "the catch".
