DL recruit picks Pitt over OSU

Tyrone Ezell is tired of traveling. The defensive lineman at Steel Valley High School has shuttled to his native Chicago the past three years more times than he can recall. Now he's staying put. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Ezell gave a verbal commitment to his hometown Pitt Panthers on Saturday. Ranked among the top 40 defensive linemen in the nation -- and the No. 3 defensive lineman in Pennsylvania by rivals.com -- Ezell picked Pitt over Ohio State. He also had offers from Colorado, Michigan and Georgia, among others.

Spoken like a fan who has watched his team win two consecutive conference titles only to choke in the title game....

Damn, I didn't know the Nat'l. Title was won (by Buck-nut U) already? I doubt the "vest" is going to get "wrinkled" over this Kid's decision. I'm like a few others here, never heard of this kid. I may be slipping a bit in my old age but I wasn't aware Rich the Rod was recruiting this kid either. Pitt is a enigma, I doubt that since Wannstedt has been there they even know who they want to be. Wish the kid luck, he wants to go to Pitt, so be it.

I didn't even know this kid existed, so if his name isn't ho tin Cbus, maybe its for the best.

Bim, does Michigan have Toledo this year? I know I will be in A.A. for a tune up game, I was thinking Toledo but I could be wrong.

I think tOSU has the choice now, they have most of their recruits already, so now they can be more selective.

Just like E.J. Banks who picked ND last wek. I'm sure he would have gone to tOSU if they had room. Or maybe Banks felt better at ND. & Ezell felt better at Pitt.

August 12, 2008  11:15 AM ET

Cant fault the guy for wanting to be a homer

August 12, 2008  11:17 AM ET

This kid's gotta be good if he's getting recruited all the way out in Colorado and Georgia.

August 12, 2008  11:21 AM ET

Thank goodness!!! I wouldn't want to see another kid get his heart broken in another BCS title game.

Not sure I understand your comment about "I'm sure he would have gone to tOSU if they had room." According to the article "he chose Pitt over Ohio State." "He also had offers from Colorado, Michigan and Georgia among others." So, the way I read this, the "if they had room" portion would mean that Ohio State offered him a scholarship that didn't exist. Not busting your chops, would just like you to clearify.

He picked the school that was right for him. End of story.

Not US. HIM.
