Veteran safety Adam Archuleta got a tryout with the Raiders on Monday morning in Napa, a league source confirmed, but not because they've lost faith in starters Gibril Wilson and Michael Huff. The Raiders offered Archuleta a contract and should be signed once he passes his physical. He could be in uniform by tonight's second practice. The Raiders are looking at Archuleta as a potential linebacker.

Interesting, that's the raiders.....Not sure if he has the size....

HUH!?!

Watch for alot of completed passes in his general direction. Seemed last year he though if he would impede the runner or receiver's progress by laying down in front of them that they would just fall down. Didn't work then, probably won't work now.

not sure this will work, but the raiders have a history of making player position projects in the nfl. sometimes with success.

August 12, 2008  09:49 AM ET

He played LB in college, but still I'd rather have David Archuleta play on my team than this loser.

Goldizzle | 08/12/08, 10:37 AM

I thought that was 'Crazy Eddie'. Oh, wait, it was his prices that were insane. Never mind.

August 12, 2008  10:40 AM ET

Yikes. He was personally responsible for many Bear losses last year. No surprise the Raiders took him.

August 12, 2008  10:57 AM ET

This guy is so slow and so beatable, only the Raiders would want him. They should change the name of the team to "Oakland Losers."

August 12, 2008  11:14 AM ET

I think Grossman was responsible for most of the Bears losses. If you want to blame Archuleta then you're mistaken. I can't see him going from the Rams who defense was supposed to be worse than the Bears and still win all of a sudden change.

August 12, 2008  11:25 AM ET

Archuletdown needs to stay home with his Playmate wife. Good luck with that one Raiders.....

August 12, 2008  12:03 PM ET

Too bad Marion Barber III will not have another opprotunity to run him over like he did when Archuleta was a Bear! HAHAHA!

Anyone else notice that this guy's play has directly oppositely corresponded to the increasing steroid testing in the NFL?

August 12, 2008  12:22 PM ET

Dr. D THE Bittiologist ..He reminds me a lot of R. Williams. Cannot cover anybody and the big backs like Brandon Jacobs just run over the top of him...

August 12, 2008  01:11 PM ET

Archuleta sucked while he was here. He could not tackle, could not stop the run, could not cover anyone and looked really slow.

He was Lovie's boy and they still cut him.

August 12, 2008  01:13 PM ET

He would be a backup and provide depth, Raiders have 2 young studs

August 12, 2008  02:04 PM ET

Anyone who has seen Gibril Wilson play knows that you cannot have enough guys who can play safety as insurance for all the games he will be out injured...

August 12, 2008  02:14 PM ET

You figure that the Raiders would've gone after John Lynch first. Why this guy and at linebacker? I don't get it, really.

Wait, it is only a RUMOR, remember?

August 12, 2008  02:51 PM ET

Man..that Archuleta character is pretty dynamic..first he scores second place on American Idol...now he's playing NFL football.................

August 12, 2008  03:59 PM ET

Physically Impossbile.

Amen to that. Wilson made big mouth Shaun WIlliams expendable. I think Phillips is going to be a good safety.
