Cuban likes NBA players in Europe

Mark Cuban believes that the movement of NBA veterans to Europe is actually a good thing for the NBA. Really. Cuban's stance on the issue might change if, say, Dirk doubles his salary by returning to Europe once his contract expires. But Cuban did blog an interesting case to support his stance that the NBA benefits from the Euro competition for talent. Cuban, whose stance against NBA players participating in the Olympics is well known, would like to see the Euro teams advance to the point where they could compete against the elite NBA teams in tournaments.

Cuban will be bashed again, but I believe he means what he says. He is thinking ahead businesswise. He is thinking profits all the time. That's why I'm not surprise with his stance on this. He also wants it globalize which means more cash for his business.

The bad part about globalizing is the rise in ticket prices which goes ultimately to the fans. That means salary caps will be raised also or even eliminated.

I did a TD on this and it didn't get much of a response.

The easiest way for fans to control ticket prices Guam Baller is just stop going to the games....

No team is forcing anyone to buy those tickets. Stop going and the prices WILL go down

LOL, are you kidding? This is easy to say to a person who might not make the mega bucks to afford the games if the prices go up much more but it doesn't address those who have plenty of cash. I stopped going to Stars games a LONG time ago when they built the new stadium. My ticket price basically doubled and my seat was twice as far away! I stopped going and ummm... they are still selling out. There was a TON of angry people talking about not being able to afford it but they made it fit their budget. Until it hits a totally ridiculous price that even the well off can't afford, things won't change. Don't get me wrong, they will try to keep the nose bleed sections down in price. Think of it this way. Even if they only have a stadium 1/2 full at double the price per ticket then they are still no worse than if they filled it with cheaper prices. Sports prices are already too out of control for me. I'm just glad HDTV came along.

Ghost, that's easier said than done. It's like saying don't drive and the price of gas will go down.

Cuban likes anything that may hurt the NBA

August 12, 2008  09:41 AM ET

For his stance against pros at the Limpics I applaud him. No way wee need NBA millionaires and NHL millionaires competing for Limpic gold. Ditto for bum picker Nadal in tennis.

The Dude is correct on his ticket prices tirade. Staying away won't work because rich Chets exist who will pay anyway.

August 12, 2008  09:51 AM ET

If pros don't play in the Olympics the Amercians can't win basketball or hockey or tennis.

On Europe, I've already expressed the fact that I like the trend and I hope it continues but I don't expect superstars to go, b-list and c-list players yes, but not superstars.

Cuban should buy an international team and get in the game if he feels strongly about the concept.

August 12, 2008  09:55 AM ET

He doesn't have all of his marbles if you know what i mean.

August 12, 2008  10:09 AM ET

Cuban is a business man. PERIOD--globalization will help the bottom line. It's too bad he can't be as intuitive about improving the team he has in Dallas. This year he will be lucky to make the playoffs.

Wow, FanNation, you're a day late and a buck short with this story. SLAMonline.com was reporting this with more details about three days ago.

August 12, 2008  10:27 AM ET

This may be the only way Cuban can win a NBA Championship, by allowing Europe to sign all of the decent players so that Dallas Mavs might actually have a shot at the title.

YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ANYONE CUBAN, WE ARE ON TO YOU!!!!!!!!!

August 12, 2008  10:32 AM ET

The more players that go to Europe, the more devalued an NBA franchise becomes. Then Mr Cuban comes in and busy about 5 or 6 of them and chaep price. Cuban will own the NBA in 10 years!!! LOL

August 12, 2008  10:32 AM ET

busy = buys

August 12, 2008  10:33 AM ET

chaep = price...damn my keyboard skills suck today!!! AAAHHH!

Yeah, a diluted talent pool in the NBA betters his chances of getting a ring.
