Lions eject fan heckling Williams
Security escorted a fan out of Lions practice this morning after he got into a verbal altercation with wide receiver Roy Williams. It was the first such incident since the Lions started opening training camp to the general public again last year. Mike Lazzara, 42, of Novi stood on the top step of the bleachers amid a sparse, mostly quiet crowd. He repeatedly shouted to Williams about taking plays off. "I didn't use any profanity to him," Lazzara said. "I wanted just to be constructive and tell the guy, 'You know, I'm not making $20 million a season.' The guy takes plays off. You guys look at the tape." Williams heard Lazzara as he went back to the huddle, then walked over to the fence separating the fans from the field. Williams suggested they switch jobs, as some of his teammates yelled.

Fans are lucky training camps are open to spectators. While it is a free country to say things like he did, the fan did cause a disruption to the practice and he had to guy. No matter if a guy takes plays off or not, the point is practices are part of their job. The fan could have made a sign and made the same point.

That fan pays Roy Williams salary. Those $70 tickets to watch the Lions lose every year is why he gets paid so much. As long as he wasn't using profanity, he should be able to say what he wants.

Nah,
he keeps quiet, it is a distraction and he is not sure what the intent of each play/practice drill is. It 90 plus degrees, maybe williams and his defensive counterpart are taking one off....c-ya mr big arse Lazzara

As a matter of fact, the fans don't pay Williams' salary, the Detroit Lions do.
The fans are paying the owner of the Detroit Lions for the pleasure of watching the team. If they are silly enough to pay $70 for a ticket to watch them can you really blame the players for having no respect for them?
I mean, if I was raking it in courtesy of some dummy stealing his kid's college fund to buy a season ticket to some mess like the Lions I would be laughing my **** off at the fans too.....

If the Lions are smart they will Franchise and then trade this guy next year. I know I would hate to see him go, but the team has bigger needs than WR, and what they could potentially get in return could help the overall team much more than what they would be giving up. Let's start, for example, with an offensive line.
Didn't this offensive line say they were good at the run block? What happened to that?

A distraction? They play in front of 70,000 every game. If you can't PRACTICE with one person yelling, you should't be playing the game.

Give me a break. One guy makes this much of a disruption? No wonder these guys haven't won in forever. Talk about crybabies. What happens when they play on the road and 65,000 people are heckling? Oh yeah, I have seen the results... these are the Lions, right?

I agree, if anything they should pay people to do that.
