OKC losing draft pick to Turkey
Second-round pick DeVon Hardin is expected to sign with a team in Turkey. Under NBA rules, Oklahoma City can retain his draft rights for up to one year after his contract ends with his overseas team, allowing Oklahoma City to monitor his development and have the first chance at signing him when he returns. Hardin, a 6-foot-11 power forward, was the 50th overall pick in this year's draft. He averaged 9.3 points and 7.4 rebounds in his senior season at California last year.

Pretty sad commentary when some Joe Nobody second rounder chooses to go toTurkey rather than get stuck living in Oklahoma City.....
Good luck convincing actual free agent stars to go there.......

lol.......actually Turkey is supposed to be VERY nice - especially the resort towns on the mediterranean
I actually think from a bball point- it's good for players to go wehre thhy'll actually PLAY, rather than riding pine for 2-3 years here- to get experience.
D-league for under 6 figures or overseas for potentially 7 figures.....
NO CONTEST

If you can pay guys enough to play in Salt Lake City, they will play anywhere there's a check.

One thing's for sure, Europe does seem to be creating well paying opportunities for players who would otherwise not be playing basketball for a living. The size of the "professional" pool is therefore increasing.

It probably wasn't the location......he likely just heard that they were thinking of calling the team the "Thunder", and decided that was just too much to deal with.

This is the type of player that will benefit from playing overseas. Unfortunately he probably won't be back, because he'll make a lot more money than the NBA will be willing to pay him.

Are you kidding me I hope you were being sarcastic, if you ever been to Turkey you will find out quickly that it has an odor to it that will make Oscar the Grouch hurl his cookie. Speaking of cookies the food is as bland as you can get, unlike other Mediterranean countries
Not to mention the are always looking for a fight on every turn and their interest in B-ball is nothing to write home about

No I was being serious- but I was talking from what I've heard (never been ) along the resort towns by the water....

I've been to Turkey... i had a great time and loved it... Maybe whoever told you about it was a cornball (obviously you didn't go) because i enjoyed the food and the people... Or maybe if you did go, you were a lame duck exchange student staying on somebodies bunk bed eating what their moms cooked for dinner everynight... lol... please.... you people kill me!!! lol

What da bloodclot
your immaturity knows no bounds. I was stating an opinion which was cultivated from my experience there but not as a foreign exchange student. I am glad you had a wonderful experience but there is another side that was shielded from you.
dont be so quick to become sensitive over a subject that you dont know the full story about.
on that not go back to what ever you were doing and if you have anything mature or of relevence to say I will look foward to reading it

Texamade, since you take this issue so personally, you must have serious personal issues with Turkey. The food is extremely good, the best I and my wife had in her life, we lived there for four years, People are nice, there is no odor, the best resorts in the world for your money and I do not know of an American who did not like there after visiting Turkey (except you maybe), I know more than 100s.
About the serious issue: Most American college players and serious NBA players who have 10+ minute per game playing time have played there for many years (such as Solomon recently who is returning to NBA), most of them never come back, and have the time of their lives. How sad to be being so much opiniated about a place.

lol love the name
I have no strong issues against turkey it might be the fact that I went in the early late 90's so I'm sure it probably changed for the better,
my issue is with fannation members who reduce the site to immature individual name caling of other members just for expressing an opinion now I do enjoy getting a different point of view cause it adds to ones knowledge and insight.
I might need to visit the country again to see what has to offer now. but first things first next year I'm heading to Rome just hope the USD gain some ground on the Euro by then.
