Recruit picks Georgia over BC

In May, Dartmouth tight end and highly prized prospect Arthur Lynch-Fontaine appeared set to spend his Saturday afternoons in The Heights. However, the soon-to-be senior has instead decided to go "Between the Hedges." Lynch made a verbal commitment to Boston College in May. But Tuesday he confirmed he has committed to suit up for the University of Georgia next fall. When asked about why he chose Georgia, the 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end / defensive end said that he felt he'd have a greater college experience at a school that wasn't as familiar to him as BC was.

Another recruit who doesn't want to play for his state's school. Good choice though in the end. Obviously he thought Georgia had a better chance of going somewhere than B.C. does.

Yeah he felt he'd have a "greater college experience" because he heard how great a party school Georgia is! "Pass the pitcher please"!

August 13, 2008  09:40 AM ET

Or that chance to play for a #1 team. You know, stories to tell your grand-kids about when you won the national championship etc etc etc

Ouch! Bad reasons for choosing School A suggest really low regard for spurned School B = Boston College.

Excellent choice with the golf hat Mark. Don't want to see that toupe' get bleached in the sun.

If you think that partying is the ONLY thing that Georgia has over BC, you need to do a little more research. Maybe he wanted to give his nizuts a chance to thaw out during the winter.

Or maybe because the ladies are a helluva lot more smokin in the South than in Boston... that and people in the South know how to say "Car" without sounding stupid.

Georgia has produced 4 or 5 tight ends for the pros the last 10 years. The tight end is a big part of our offense. Also, the Patriots have had a lot of Georgia players so people are very aware about Georgia and their program. Not a knock on BC at all, they did beat us in a bowl 6 years ago, but Georgia has moved up to a higher level now. We love Matt Ryan as a Falcon so.

All the above are very valid (and amusing) reasons, however I think I'll stick with my logic as expressed above. These days UGA is getting more press for that (drinking, fights, DUI arrests, etc) than their on-field prowess!

August 13, 2008  12:57 PM ET

These days there are no games to warrant on-field prowess yet.

There have been far too many arrests in Athens though, and the football players need to get smarter before they ruin a good thing.

As long as one can party in a responsible manner, i.e. no DUI's, fights, or interference on important matters like school or training, then go ahead, n'est-ce pas?

nizuts...classic

August 13, 2008  01:36 PM ET

He will never regret chosing UGA. Never.

August 13, 2008  01:41 PM ET

You have to be doing something stupid to get arrested in Athens. As long as your not fighting, peeing, swerving, or walking around with a beer your good to go! Also, if you can reach the bar they will let you into the bar. So easy for under age kids to get in. Over 60 bars within a walkable distance of each other. How is Athens not the best party town in the nation? Oh College......

August 13, 2008  02:30 PM ET

Couldn't agree more with both How'bout'em and Teabag Tebow!

College can be a great experience if a little common sense is applied to the partying! Though I'm a fan of another SEC team I do support Georgia when their not playing my team because I live here! I'd like to see them win all their games but one! The athletes will need to take on a larger role in assuring their peers stay focused and in control off the field, the coaches aren't always around to do that!

Hey um...maybe you should know what you're username means before you put it up there...

anyways...let's just call Richt "Urban's Cowboy"

"When asked about why he chose Georgia, the 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end / defensive end said that he felt he'd have a greater college experience at a school that wasn't as familiar to him as BC was." --- translation - > Those UGA co-eds sure look sweeter and cuter than the ones at BC.

No doubt the women are some of the finest as a group anywhere. Ask the Italian bikerider during the Tour De Georgia when being screamed at by hundreds of beautiful dolled up coeds. I think he said he thought he died and went to Heaven.

Anyways, in Athens the police are very strict and underage drinking is more then a citation and showing up in court like many towns (aka Gainesville). You actually go to jail here so for those not aware the local police are not on the take (see Gainesville again) and don't let pot smoking AK47 toting athletes on probation back on their team by looking the other way. Kettle meet Pot...

"being screamed at by hundreds of beautiful dolled up coeds. I think he said he thought he died and went to Heaven."

Yeah, that sounds goo to me too!!

August 14, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Kid made a smart choice if he wants a more sure path to the Pros!

August 14, 2008  11:21 AM ET

The kid was quoted in a local Mass. paper as saying that he wanted to study "social services, education, or communications" and that UGA fit his educational requirements. In other words, he wants to be a big, dumb guy who doesn't want to go to class. With UGA Football's 45% graduation rate, he found the right place.
