Mets weigh bullpen change

Mets Manager Jerry Manuel has watched his unreliable bullpen implode too many times. He is tired of watching leads vanish and tired of unsuccessfully playing dial-a-closer. Now Manuel is ready to make a drastic change to solve the bullpen conundrum. If the relievers remain ragged, Manuel said he might move a starter like John Maine, Oliver Perez or Mike Pelfrey to the bullpen. While that might seem like a frantic decision with 43 games left in the season, Manuel calmly said he has been pondering relocating a starter into the late innings for two weeks.

They should place all their relievers (other then Wagner) on EBAY and get new ones if they want any shot at this year. Which I do not see them making the playoffs this season.

You think? Then again, look at the Brewers, and yet they constantly get bailed out by the long ball.

August 13, 2008  08:21 AM ET

Their "longer" guys (Heilman, Sanchez) have been awful causing guys like Schoenwise to be put into positions they can't handle. If righties are hitting 320 against a pitcher and lefties 150 and you throw him in for an entire inning to face 3 righties you're going to get hurt.

Put them on ebay , with free shipping. Toss in Wagner also, all he does is get hurt and BLOW saves

Another example of how dump this manager is. To move starting pitchers into the bullpen this late in the season is just dumb. Now the starting rotation and the bullpen would be in disarray. Not that I would have a problem with that.

August 13, 2008  09:11 AM ET

Have Jerry line em up, and use a flamethrower on them. When the fire is out, light em up again.

August 13, 2008  10:48 AM ET

Now FMSD, don't you find that to be a little extreme? Strichnine laced koolaid would be much more professional.

Well with the guys they listed above to go to the pen, I'd guess the weight of the bullpen change to be about 700 lbs................
