White Sox still looking to deal

As the White Sox and Twins continue to jockey for the top position in the AL Central, Sox GM Ken Williams remains aggressive, searching for talent during this more complicated waiver trade period. "We're looking every day," he said. "If there's an opportunity to make ourselves better, we aren't afraid." Of course, other teams are not sympathetic to the needs of the Sox, who lost starting pitcher Jose Contreras to a ruptured Achilles' tendon on Saturday. Other teams with worse records have the opportunity to block potential waiver trades.

Yeah, who would they be looking at?

I love the Twins but they never do anything. Why not make a splash and get Bonds for the last few months of the season? He has to be a better DH then Kuebel or Cuddyer and will protect Morneau and Mauer in the lineup. I know they talk about chemistry but they are so close to making the playoffs.

Surely you jest!

If the White Sox continue to make weak in-season trades like the one for Griffey they will be forever known as "The Pantyhose" !!1

Who wouldn't want to deal with the ChiSox? Oh yeah Freddie Garcia, yeah I forgot about that.............

August 13, 2008  01:20 PM ET

Washburn.

August 13, 2008  01:46 PM ET

The Sox have already said Wahburn yields too many fly balls for Cellular Field.

August 13, 2008  06:18 PM ET

"i mean if they call him up (i dont remember the name off the top of my head.."

His name is Aaron Poreda. He's got a high 90's fastball and a killer sinker, but he's only just recently been promoted to AA. Definitely not ready to start in the Majors yet. Potential for the pen in an emergency, though.

August 13, 2008  06:19 PM ET

"Washburn."

Washburn wouldn't work in that park. Fly ball pitchers get killed there.

What do the White Sox have to deal ??? Who would want to play for Guillen ??? Who would want to be part of a team that - probably - doesn't make the playoofs ??/

August 13, 2008  06:54 PM ET

i know you know everything there is to know about baseball and chemistry and what it's like to be a player, but nearly every player who has played for ozzie said he loved playing for ozzie. Why would you want to be part of a team who is tied for first place right now? Good question.

Obama had a White Sox hat on in Hawaii. If "The One" is behind us, we cannot fail.

SInce when have the Sox made any weak/bad in-season trades. I don't consider trading for Griffey was bad, they gave up to prospects that weren't going to help any more than Griffey and getting Griffey is a huge plus for other hitters with his presences in a already powerful lineup. SInce 2004 the SOx haven't made any big in-season trades because they were need the last weak or bad trade came in 2005 with the Sox getting Geoff Blum for a high prospect who didn't turn into anything, yea Blum didn't do jack **** for the Sox during the season but in the WOrld Series he hit a 14inning game winning home run. So maybe we should revise that statement.
