Three-team trade in works?

Bucks guard Mo Williams could be headed to Cleveland as part of a three-team trade, with the Bucks targeting point guard Luke Ridnour of the Oklahoma City franchise, formerly the Seattle SuperSonics. NBA sources confirmed that there had been discussions involving the three teams. Cleveland is searching for backcourt help to complement LeBron James, and Williams could fit the bill. But Williams carries a hefty price tag with five years and $43 million left on the $51 million contract the point guard signed with the Bucks before last season, when he was an unrestricted free agent. Cleveland had some interest in Williams last summer, and the Miami Heat made him an offer, but he chose to stay with the Bucks. The Cavaliers have been unable to come to a contract agreement with point guard Delonte West, who is a restricted free agent this summer, and he could be part of the deal in a sign-and-trade, according to reports. Or Oklahoma City could receive former Bucks forward Joe Smith, who has an expiring contract and will be paid $4.8 million next season, as part of its compensation in the deal.

I came in specifically to see what the pistons were up to....

JOE D

YOU'RE REALLY MAKING ME IMPATIENT.....

This is crazy. Cleveland wants Mo Williams but he is too expensive, but there is a guy name Pargo that is way cheaper. I don't get it. Mo is pretty good but he is too expensive for about 9 miilion a year. You can get Pargo for less then half of that. $4 miilion a year for Pargo is not bad. Pargo can hit consistent outside shot. Delonte West is too inconsistent and he needs the ball in his possesion a lot. The ball has to be in Lebron's hands most of the time.

Guam Baller,

Good point. I agree with you. The Cavs should make a run at Pargo. Although neither Pargo or Mo Williams is going to put the Cavs over the top.

August 13, 2008  08:46 AM ET

Joe makes allot of noise but clearly little moves.. this will be interesting but probally all rumors at this point.

August 13, 2008  08:59 AM ET

Sounds too much like a rumor. Plus I fail to see how someone like Mo Williams is going to make LeBron happy.

August 13, 2008  09:10 AM ET

Why would Milwaukee (or anyone for that matter) want Ridenour? He is straight garbage!

August 13, 2008  09:11 AM ET

Hova,

Mo is a major upgrade to most teams in the league at PG. He is a very good defender and he is very young. We have seen how valuable a solid PG is in the league. Take a look at his numbers from last season.

August 13, 2008  09:21 AM ET

Looks like the Bucks are looking to grab somebody who can bring the ball up the court and pass it to someone who can shoot. I like the Bucks trying to make some moves that will make them competitive, but this guy ain't make'n it.

August 13, 2008  09:38 AM ET

SoFlaBoy,

I agree completely. Mo Williams can help spell King James and keep him fresher late in the game. He's a good defender and he takes care of the ball. He has upside too. But he signed a good contract at $9 mil. He'll have to raise his game for Cleveland fans to feel like they're getting their money's worth.

i like the trade for the cavs if they are able to keep joe smith. he is a nice bench piece. he defends and has a consistent jumpshot. but most importantly he has an expiring contract next year. that along with the other expiring contracts over the next two years can free up space for bigger moves next summer.

August 13, 2008  10:40 AM ET

Mo Williams is a good defender? Have you ever watched they guy? I'd take Ridnour in a heart beat to dump Williams. Make the move BUCKS!!!!

August 13, 2008  11:03 AM ET

If we can't resign Delonte, than I think Mo would be a pretty fair replacement. All I know is the Bucks owned us last season, and Mo torched us in every game.

August 13, 2008  11:04 AM ET

This is all predicated on the players not playing in Europe !!!

August 13, 2008  11:24 AM ET

if they wanted to give a backup pg 9 million dollars...they would just pay delonte...this is stupid...of course they dont really want either guy...they want to go cheaper at this spot...

I still think Ferry needs to make a swing for the fences move.

i hate when people do this...post before thinking. first ridnour couldnt guard a turkey sandwich let alone a nba point guard. you are STUPID!!! moe is better offensively and defensively. so just stop posting. your killing everyone's brain cells with your posts.

August 13, 2008  12:28 PM ET

He's right.
Mo Williams is nothing great, but he is standard on offense and defense, while Ridnour is inconsistent at offense and overall poor at defense.

As someone who lives in Milwaukee (please spare the jokes), and has actually seen Mo Williams play, I can attest that he is a horrible defensive player. As we all know he's really a "2" guard in a point guard's body. He would make an ideal sixth man, pairing him with a "true" poing guard freeing him up to shoot. A Pargo/Williams pairing off the bench doesn't sound too bad. Pargo can distribute and Williams can jack up as many as he likes.

The fact is that Williams isn't going to carry ANY team to the NBA Finals. If a broke down Jason Kidd couldn't do it with the Mavs what makes you think Williams could do it for Cleveland? because he's younger? Sure, but he's not more talented than Kidd either!

Williams wouldn't be such a bad fit for Cleveland, IF he was paired alongside a "true" point guard. There's no doubt Williams can score, but he can't direct an offense, that much I'm certain of.
