Is Steinbrenner giving up on '08 Yanks?
Hank Steinbrenner talking about next year was a strong indication he privately feels like a lot of other people: This year is gone. After explaining to the Associated Press that he wasn't giving up on this season and pointing to key injuries having played a huge part in the disappointing year, Steinbrenner made a prediction about 2009. "It's not making excuses. It's reality. That's part of the game. That's clearly our problem," Steinbrenner said of the injuries. "We're going to win it next year. If we need to add a top veteran pitcher, we'll do that. We'll do whatever we need to do. Next year we'll be extremely dangerous." What about the remaining part of this year? While time is running out, Steinbrenner's comments caused a few heads to shake. Joe Girardi avoided critiquing Steinbrenner's comments but didn't discount catching the Rays or Red Sox.

Good...maybe he can save us some time by getting a page in the NY Times and just being honest about the Yankees chances.

Morning All.
C'mon Yanks don't quit. Boston/NY October games are the best.
Man up for crying out loud! George never would quit.

Sounds like Manny will be a Yankees. Boras must be licking his chops.

Hank seems to be an idiot. They should have tried to get Santana. Appears that the other teams have caught up with the Yanks.

Manny is not going to NY, but CC probably is. And isnt the old saying "pitching wins games"?

The Brewers have 4 players batting below .250 (and that doesn't count the pitchers) and are still winning. Go figure. I wonder if team chemistry doesn't play a part in this too. An over bearing owner, and egos can put undo pressure on a team also. I'm not shocked by this, but injuries are a part of it only so far.

Veteran pitcher, I hope he does not mean moose. Contract year has been awesome but I dont believe he will last another 3 years.

His last name is Steinbrenner. He'll say something completely different about this season in about 48 hours. The only winner here in this whole predictable Yankee mess is Joe Torre. He could be on his way to the play-offs with one of the biggest enemies of Yankee fans. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!

They can get all the pitchers they want, if they don't get some guys who can hit their batting average with runners in scoring position they'll still lose. Too many 2 out singles with no one on base and 3 run homers when they're already up by 5 and not enough deep flies with a man at 3rd and 1 out.

I wonder what Hal had to say. Oh, that's right, Hal keeps his mouth shut and runs the team.
As far as Hank he's saying that the injuries this year hurt the teams chances and they're going to address the teams short comings in the off season. He sure is an idiot.

Not for Fox. A Tampa/Milwakee W.S. would do about as well as the WNBA preseason.

I could care less what Fox wants. My post season enjoyment is most important to me. And a post season with the Rays, Angels, Cubs, etc...is more enjoyment for me.

Cubs/Angels would be good series. Great pitching, a curse to exercise, good managers and good lineups. I'm sick of lousy World Series that are over in 4 games.

I think it is going to be Angels/Brewers and the Angels win in 6.

If you give me the location of the closest bridge to your house, I'll go install some safety netting. Angels in the WS! Have you been paying attention for the last 25 years. They've had better teams than this and always manage to gag on it.

Angels/Brewers is another good series. Hopefully if it is the celebrities won't care and we won't have to watch a different idiot who doesn't watch baseball get interviewed every inning because they have a TV show coming out.
