Horn desperately wants out of Atlanta

Falcons wide receiver Joe Horn said he wants to be traded or cut so badly that he has "contemplated" restructuring or forfeiting part of the $2.5 million in guaranteed base salary he's owed. "I'm even contemplating giving some money back to further this thing along," the disgruntled wide receiver said Tuesday. "I'm ready to get it solved and move on. The longer I stay here, the worse it's going to get." Horn, 36, said earlier this summer that he wanted to be traded because he felt the team's approach under new GM Dimitroff and first-year coach Mike Smith is to use younger players as part of a rebuilding process. Horn said he felt younger receivers, such as second-year player Laurent Robinson and rookie Harry Douglas, were moved ahead of him on the depth chart and that the Falcons are keeping him as a "just-in-case" player.

Maybe the Jets or Pats will give a 6 th or 7th rounder for him?

August 13, 2008  07:04 AM ET

Isn't this old news!

August 13, 2008  07:21 AM ET

This guy has issues everywhere he goes. And his numbers suck to boot...

August 13, 2008  07:47 AM ET

I can understand how frustrating it must be to bump down the depth chart. But seriously Joe, your 36, haven't have over a 1000 yds since 2004 in NO. So you're not a #1 receiver, or even really a #2.

I wouldn't get to down on the guy Cowboys fans, Jerry will be signing him the moment he is available. You don't really think Crayton is starting the season #2 do you?

August 13, 2008  07:50 AM ET

This story is deja vu all over again.

Au Contraire, Crayton is actually looking good and as of today is starting the season #2! Horn, despite his experience would be hard pressed to beat out any of our younger receivers at their present level of development. So I'd have to say his chances of wearing a star on his helmet is slim to none and slim just left town!

August 13, 2008  08:17 AM ET

The guy is 36 years old, caught all of 27 passes last year. If he is an upgrade to any team, then they have real problems. He would do better to contact the Sharpie company about doing commercials.

August 13, 2008  08:25 AM ET

horn better think long and hard about wanting to be cut. at 36, diminishing skills, and no teams showing interest, ending up on the wavier wire might be the same as retiring.

August 13, 2008  08:31 AM ET

I desepratley want T&R to report news ... not old "hat" stuff that they've posted a kabillion times since this story broke 20,000 years ago ...

Ditto what "Cowboystar" said. The Cowboys were fine last year with this same crew of recievers. I'd take the Dallas receiveing group over the Giants group in a heart beat!

August 13, 2008  08:39 AM ET

Be happy that you are still in the league and on a team. Shut up and play.

Don't hate on the Giants' wide receivers. Plaxico Burress, Steve Smith, Amani Toomer, and Mario Manningham. Kevin Boss will be a good tight end too. The Cowboys are impressive as usual, but the Giants are right there with them in my mind.

Baltimore?

August 13, 2008  09:12 AM ET

Horn realizes that there is no place for him on the Falcons roster.... we're talking the feckking pitiful Falcons!!..... who's lower on the food chain for him to go to?..... are the Washington Nationals considering a move to the NFL?

August 13, 2008  09:23 AM ET

ertchboy7, the Gents will be similiar to last years edition minus a trip to the NFC final and the SB. As for their receiver corps I reserve judgement until they prove that last years success was not a fluke! As for BoBo hating on them, thats what NFC foes do, though with a degree of respect as being in the one of the most competitive Divisions.

August 13, 2008  09:24 AM ET

Sorry, lost the "b" in your name somehow bertchboy7!

August 13, 2008  09:32 AM ET

yawn, here we go again

August 13, 2008  09:39 AM ET

He used to be a top receiver -very dangerous deep threat. What the hell happened?

"....a "just-in-case" player."

...Uhhhh...that's what you are.
