The plan is finally in place for Joey Logano to begin his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career, with a handful of races scheduled this season in Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas. A source close to the team said Saturday that Logano will run "six or seven" Sprint Cup races with sponsorship from Gatorade between now and the end of the 2008 campaign, in an effort to gain NASCAR approval for Logano to run for Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors next season. Plans call for the 18-year old Connecticut native to make his Sprint Cup debut at Richmond International Raceway on September 6th, with additional races to be announced within the next 2-3 weeks. He will also run the ARCA ReMax Series race at Talladega Superspeedway for Venturini Motorsports, to satisfy NASCAR requirements for him to compete in the 2009 Daytona 500.

I wish him luck, he seems like a nice kid!!!!

After this kid smokes them in a Toyota, the buzz will be "Tony who"

Next up...finding a 19 year old to replace old man Hamlin lol

August 13, 2008  10:19 AM ET

I heard a rumor that HMS has 4 guys who are floating resumes around.
I think one has already hooked up with some one. This is just rumor now.

Logano is a great young talent, but it has been his equipment putting him in front. Not doubting his capabilities but if he has sub-par equipment will he be able to handle himself in the pack for an entire race?

August 13, 2008  11:34 AM ET

Subpar equipment? Have you seen the JGR cars this year? Where are those subpar cars you speak of?

August 13, 2008  11:52 AM ET

Too soon, dangit. Give him another year or two in Nationwide.

You left out smoking KYLE! LOL

August 13, 2008  11:58 AM ET

Subpar equipment? He isn't going to DEI. Now that I think of it, he's not going to Hendricks or Roush either. Just joshing, but serious about DEI.
I agree with nin man about leaving him in Nationwide for a little more experience but it is a money driven game now.

August 13, 2008  12:33 PM ET

Every time he doesn't win he looks so depressed even though he came in the top ten. I want to see him finish 35 or above a couple of times in a row or DNF and see how he handles that in nationwide because if he does have a meltdown, there is no way he will be ready for cup.
Think about this:
Biffle, Kane, Kennseth, Boyer, Johnson, Dale JR, Busch,
hamlet, Stewart...ect
you think these guys are gonna let Logano beat them week in and week out.
Joey better show me he knows how to lose.
I already know he can win.

August 13, 2008  12:35 PM ET

Nice one Asbel...that is exactly what i was getting at in my statement about being stuffed in the pack for the whole race. He will lose and what wil his reaction be? Wil he gut up or will he ride himself about it and carry it over to the next race?

August 13, 2008  12:40 PM ET

I couldn't help myself. I saw a Brock Lesnar comment on the MMA boards and had to leave a comment.

Busch-Logano-Hamlin The new Young guns and JGR the Top powerhouse.
Although I wish they still drove Chevy.

August 13, 2008  01:05 PM ET

Asbel... he beats most of that list every Saturday.

Although I think NASCAR should mandate atleast 2 years worth of driving in the lower series before moving up to Cup. You can mix and match it however you want between Trucks and NWS.

The kid need to stay in Busch he has to remember this is the big time not those part-timers he has been racing before. Besides he is young and he definitely needs to learn how to become a good loser. He looks like (exactly what he is) a little kid that got sent to his room, after every race when they try to interview him
