CEO puts Galaxy on notice

One story line tonight is how the Galaxy will react to the departure of Gullit and the debut of Cobi Jones as interim coach. "I think that we have the talent and the quality to get things done," Jones said. "I think it's getting everybody on the same page and pointing them in the right direction." David Beckham, Landon Donovan and the rest of the Galaxy have been told by Tim Leiweke, chief executive of AEG, which owns the club, that they no longer have any excuses. "The players don't have any excuses to begin with, to be honest," Vagenas said. "When you're on that field, if you hate the coach or love the coach, you need to realize you're playing for your job. Through the years I think the mentality has been lost or has been shifted.

Becks will leave after the season if they keep losing.... they will place the blame on him for losing and he will take off

Let Posh give pep talks...they'll start winning for sure

AEG has only themselves to blame for this. For years they were silent owners (in the grand scheme of MLS). Philip Anschutz only showed his face when the were playing for a title-he's the Punksatawney Phil of soccer. Now they use Lieweke as the thug that delivers the bad news (his job must really be on the hot seat!!!)
Becks has a contract, sure he could leave and find himself another club in the world but his luster as a player will have faded after this fiasco. He couldn't go anywhere that would elevate his commercial and playing status (not unless Middlesborough want to do a tour of Asia).
I think the Vagenas quote says a lot about the recent rumblings. Apparently some players hated Gullit. I can't blame them, he was brought there to get in their faces, demand more of them. All of them, even the high priced guys!
Remember when Gullit was a player, he used to have dreadlocks. Obviously coaching made him pull his hair out. LA would've made him bald.

Oh, yeah? How about the excuse that they just aren't good enough? Beyond Becks and LD, who do they have? The Galaxy put all their eggs in one baskek and now have one big mess on their hands!

Leiweke should be next to go. Not only has he allowed a mess of the galaxy, but also of another AEG owned team which he is president, the la kings. both have suffered from poor management decisions. AEG shoudl stick to just running stadiums and let a more competent group run the teams that play in them.

Beckham will leave during the January transfer window. He needs to stow his ego and try to hook up with a mid-table English side aiming for a European bid. It's the only way Capello will consider him for South Africa qualifiers.
