Agent: Bengals interested in Henry

The Bengals have had "conversations" with representatives for wide receiver Chris Henry, his agent told the Enquirer late this afternoon. Don't put any stock in NFL.com," Lewis said. "I don't think (the story) has any legs for any reason." Agent Marvin Frazier said he and the Bengals were engaged in "just conversations right now." The Bengals might not be happy with their depth at receiver behind starters T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chad Johnson. The leading candidates for No. 3 receiver are two rookies, Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell, and a trio of veterans: Glenn Holt, Marcus Maxwell and Antonio Chatman. If the Bengals are seriously interested in bringing back Henry, the situation could represent a power struggle within the organization. On July 22, the day of the team's pre-training camp luncheon, Lewis left little doubt that he did not want Henry back - even after Henry had been cleared of charges related to his latest arrest. "I'm not interested," Lewis said when asked if the Bengals wanted to re-sign Henry. "

Yeah, here is the conversation.

Henry's Agent: Any chance you would brig Chris back?
Bengals: No!

End of discussion

What didn't the Bengals learn the first time around?

August 14, 2008  08:23 AM ET

*sigh*

god no. this tard set the franchise into the lowest of nfl teams with character issues single-handily. will take the bengals a decade to recover from the stain henry left on the orange & black.

let henry stay out cincy. please.

I bet the local authorities have an interest in the guy too.

August 14, 2008  09:04 AM ET

Henry was a big part of the character issues with the Bengals - a BIG PART. But there were far more problems than him alone. To say he single handedly was responsible is not accurate. Nine team members arrested in nine months (and I think I may have missed a few) showed there were more problems than Henry. And that is exactly why Henry should never be allowed back to the Bengals. They need to show the team, and the public, that they are serious about moving forward from that embarrassing period.

God please don't let him change his mind. Amen.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice ....then you would be the Bengals. You'd think that with as many legal problem children the 'Gals have been dealing with, they'd be smarter than this. I'm giving the Brown family way too much credit apparently.

Since 06/18/2007 there has been 1 bengal arrested. Chris Henry. Henry was arrested numerous times before that. If there's a face to put on the mess and stigma that the bengals character issues represent, its Chris Henry.

as for you 9 other players: since 06/02/2006 there were 9 bengals arrested, henry was 2 of those arrests.

since 10/06/2004 there were 13 bengal arrests, Henry was 6 of those arrests. Take Henry out of the mix, the Bengals have had 7 arrests since 10/04. Not even in the top 15 teams in the NFL with arrests.

But b/c of this gimp Henry, every water cooler qb has a bengals work release program joke. And will for years, long after its tired, non-factual, or based solely on their opinion.

So as a Bengal fan, I have no problem wishing Henry never wears a Bengals uniform again. Frankly if he does and gets arrested, Brown and Lewis should be suspended too.

August 14, 2008  10:19 AM ET

pw - again your numbers are not accurate. As of January 2007, the Bengals had nine players arrested in nine months, with Henry being arrested five times. Player Pos. Charges
Johnathan Joseph CB Possession of marijuana
Deltha O'Neal CB Driving while intoxicated
Reggie McNeal WR Resisting arrest
Matthias Askew DT Resisting arrest
Eric Steinbach G Boating under the influence
Chris Henry WR Total of five
Frostee Rucker DE Spousal battery
A.J. Nicholson LB Burglary, grand theft
Odell Thurman LB Driving while intoxicated
And that doesn't take into account any other arrests since.

I'm not debating that Henry should be on the team. He shouldn't. But don't try and wash this away as saying that he was the only problem. The Bengals had a lot more legal problems than just Henry.
