McCabe headed to Panthers?

If Bryan McCabe has, in fact, played his last game as a Maple Leaf, don't expect him to be moved until next month. Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos reported yesterday that McCabe has agreed to waive his no-movement clause and could be headed to the Florida Panthers in a trade. Whatever the case, a source close to McCabe said last night the veteran defenceman would not change addresses for at least another couple of weeks. According to the source, the Panthers, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders and New York Rangers are among the teams McCabe would consider, although the Rangers might be out "because they've already signed everybody." The Tampa Bay Lightning also has shown interest in McCabe, the source said.

Great, a dead end player going to a dead end team.
The most disturbing part of this story is that Nick Kypreos is now a reporter!

Fletcher must be serious about making the Leafs as weak as possible as he is blasting away at every experianced player hes got. It is starting to look like old soviet style 5 year planning. Maybe next year.

We would have made the playoffs last years if jokinens lazy has played a little harder the last couple of months.

Why would McCabe waive his no-trade clause to go to Florida?

August 14, 2008  11:01 AM ET

Maybe he wants to buy a go fast boat wear linen pants just like Sonny Crockett.
Maybe not..

You've mentioned this before. I realise that Ollie wanted out, *though you'd never know it the way he plays aginst The Rangers D**N Him!) but it had to have been more than just Ollie, right?

HAHAHAHAHAH

this is a good one! Atleast one team every year does this!

Apparently JP RICCIARDI may be looking to switch leagues! he can screw the leafs over with over paid injury prone players like he has with the Blue Jays!

I had to do a quick double-take after reading that last line or so. Tampa Bay is actually considering getting a defenseman and not a forward. I am shocked!

McCabe won't help your defence. He's terrible.

August 14, 2008  01:32 PM ET

The Jacques Martin system is all about defense, which hasn't worked yet. Maybe Van Ryn and a prospect for McCabe? Don't blame only Ollie; blame the entire team, minus David Booth!

August 14, 2008  02:06 PM ET

McCabe to the Bruins? We're 1 million under the cap. We dont have the space for him. Not unless we unload Axelsson and Schaefer for him. I dont think he'd fit in though. Julien is a very defensive coach. McCabe has struggled in that part of his game.

Where's Baun-ded? I wonder what he thinks about this.

Anyone who has been forced to watch the Leafs since McCabe has been there (aka anyone in Southern Ontario) knows how overrated this guy really is. I'll be sad to see him go since you could always count on him to give your team a boost at least once a game lol. Anyone remember Leafs/Sabres game in October 2007 when he scored on his own goal. Yeah, that sorta thing.

How about the longest shot in NHL history beating Toskala? That was pretty funny too.

Another "sweepstakes" where the winner is actually the loser.
