Oilers to raise No. 9's jersey
Glenn Anderson's No. 9 jersey will be raised to the rafters at Rexall Place on Jan. 18, when the invited guests to the party will once again be Phoenix coach Wayne Gretzky and the Coyotes' goalie tutor Grant Fuhr, who also have their Edmonton Oilers numbers retired. It's getting to be old hat for Gretzky and Fuhr to be in the house for a retirement ceremony. They were also here Oct. 18, 2005 when Paul Coffey's No. 7 was retired and again last Feb. 27 when Anderson's longtime 0iler sidekick Mark Messier had his No. 11 go up. Jari Kurri's No. 17 was also retired prior to a game against the Coyotes on Oct. 6, 2001, but Gretzky and Fuhr weren't working as coaches for Phoenix then. Anderson, who will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Nov. 10 in Toronto, becomes the seventh Oiler to have his jersey retired. He joins defenceman Al Hamilton (3) on Oct. 10, 1980; Gretzky's 99 on Oct. 1, 1999, when the New York Rangers were in town; Fuhr (31) on Oct. 9, 2003 when San Jose Sharks were the opposition, Kurri, Coffey and Messier.

I love watching Montreal. they have so many of "the usual" numbers retired, so you get these guys coming in with funky#s, like 52 or something. That's how you used to know that maybe a guy up from the minors might not hang around so long...they'd make him keep a high #.

I just read an article about Esa Tikkanen. It says he was "arguably the best pest ever to play the game". Eat your heart out, Avery, lol.
It says he was a Ranger too, Spiny ....

I can't argue with that, though when the money was on tthe line, Claude Lemieux was right up there. Lemieux won cups with 4 different teams I think
Tikkanen was on the Rangers when they won in 1994. Great wrist shot and could skate like the wind

Lucky the Steelers don't retire all their numbers. There'd be none left!
The Rexall Place rafters are lloking good what with all those those retired players. Hell of a start to a team.

So, I just watched a YouTube video, looks like an NHL On The Fly segment, of the top ten hated players in the NHL. Tikkanen is at No. 8 and Lemieux is at No. 1. And Avery at no. 7. Was Tikkanen as yappy as Avery?
