Will Falcons start rookie QB?

Partly based on Matt Ryan's solid 9-of-15, 117-yard, one-touchdown showing in his NFL debut at Jacksonville on Saturday night, and partly based on the rave reviews I heard coming from Falcons decision makers, I'd be surprised if the rookie quarterback isn't Atlanta's opening-day starter against visiting Detroit.

For the amount of $$$ they're paying they better.

Is it me or does this guy resemble Ryan Leaf?

August 14, 2008  10:46 AM ET

no...ryan leaf is more like boller...and anyways the guy might actually be good...but falcons football wil never be the same

I'd prefer for him to learn the system, but every Atlanta QB is learning the system after Petrino's departure.

He was pretty good in his first start...very poised. The Falcons may have something here...

August 14, 2008  12:26 PM ET

still may be too early to decide...he's better off, coming off the bench for now

August 14, 2008  01:51 PM ET

its not like they have too many better options

He may look like Ryan Leaf in the face...but that's where it ends. The guy did more in one pre season game than Leaf did in his entire career. Watching that game, I really like this guy...he could be a big suprise this year. He had great chemistry with Roddy White...but Michael Jenkins looked miserable.
As crazy as it may seem, I don't think the Falcons are going to be as bad as projected. Being from the city, I can definitely tell you the mood has made a 180 degree turn from last year. Of course changing 50 percent of your players, losing your starting QB to dog fighting, and having your head coach skip out on you in the middle of the night helps.

I think they made a great pick in taking him. They do have to go slow though, make sure they can protect him to a certain degree and not ask him to do too much too soon. I think a lot of these QBs have turned out bad lately because of poor coaching and offensive schemes. Just my opinion.
Their is a learning curve at QB that you have to work through.

That's what I meant. I remember another picture of him and the resemblance was uncanny. If I was him, I'd get plastic surgery.

rory... You could be right. The difference between winning games and losing games is usually not that much. Actually, I am pulling for the guy to succeed, except against my team of course..

I hate to tell all you Ryan doubters I told you so - but "I told you so" !!! LOL
