Milan still an option for Marbury

Last summer, Stephon Marbury vowed he would play in Italy after his Knick contract expired after 2009. At the time, many scoffed at the farfetched notion. But Marbury's desires have now become the trend, with nine NBA players signing with European or Israeli clubs since July 1's free agency. While Marbury plans to play in the NBA this season - with the Knicks or another club if released - he still has plans of an Italian career. In fact, Marbury told The Post he will play as soon as next season, specifically aiming to join Milan. He'll have connections. Mike D'Antoni coached Milan in the 1990's and first-rounder Danilo Gallinari played for Milan the past two seasons.

another problem solved

I had openly wondered whether Marbury would use the D'Antoni connection to help him get established in the Italian league, and I had mentioned this link and joked about it in past postings.
It makes sense for Marbury and D'Antoni to help each other.

It makes sense for Marbury to go overseas too - he's probably just about done in the US after his attitude with the Knicks organization and his lack of defense.

goodbye.... maybe he might actually play basketball when he gets there

August 15, 2008  07:54 AM ET

Problem is it isn't 2009 yet and the Knicks still want to ship him off and get rid of the headache now....

August 15, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Why wait.

August 15, 2008  08:38 AM ET

Awww man...we have to wait 'till 2009??? Somebody please take him away.

August 15, 2008  08:38 AM ET

How much does he have to pay Milan?

August 15, 2008  08:39 AM ET

Bye-Bye!!!

August 15, 2008  08:59 AM ET

man how lucky is Milan...

Going go Italy was a punchline as Marbury came up with it, now its all the rage.

Stephon, go into marketing, thats where your strenghts lie ! Youve got the talent to
play ball too, but that "team" part still eludes you.

August 15, 2008  09:09 AM ET

Well, he has proven that he can't play in the NBA, so Italy, Greece, Spain - somewhere in Europe - seems to be his best option.

Stephon, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

"Starbury" still has nba level talent but the attitude is what makes him undesirable to everyone.

August 15, 2008  09:26 AM ET

How do you say "Do you feel like having a truck party?" in Italian?

August 15, 2008  09:32 AM ET

Sucks for Milan.

August 15, 2008  10:02 AM ET

I know of about 10 million NY residents that will help you pack, Steph ...

August 15, 2008  10:14 AM ET
