Makings of a Bulls-Suns trade

It's no secret around Phoenix that Shawn Marion is unhappy with his situation and wouldn't mind going elsewhere. He could be a fit for the Bulls. The key for Phoenix probably would be Ben Gordon. And Phoenix has always liked Andres Nocioni, who could play the forward positions Marion played. The Bulls could make that kind of deal -- maybe they throw in Chris Duhon, a backup point the Suns need -- without giving up their first-round pick (No. 9 overall).

That's a stupid trade for the BULLS. I mean how old is Marion, he has got to be approaching his down side and where would you play him with Deng and Tyrus Thomas on the roster and needing more minutes. Seems like the nuts and bolts of this trade is Gordon who, as I understand it, may be in the BULLS' doghouse. A Gordon for Marion deal straight up would not make sense for the BULLS and to through in Nocioni is just ridiculous!

June 11, 2007  08:52 AM ET

with luol deng developing the way he is, and thabo sefolasha showing hes able to play in the NBA, this trade makes sense for the bulls. trading nocioni who isnt needed, duhon who is expendable, and gordon who is too small and isnt consistent for marion is a great trade for the bulls!! i mean they get the low post scorer they need who also happens to play pretty good defense and they keep their pick to pick a replacement guard for the bench.

Although if possible i would add the pick and try to get amare. hes younger and better and will fit with the bulls better.

What the Bulls need is a post player, they have a good lineup right now. I think they can get it in the draft. There are a lot of talented big men out there! If they need a veteran Big guy! Why not try a deal with Indiana for Oneal! With Paxson on the side, I know he knows what to do!

June 11, 2007  09:05 AM ET

Terrible...terrible idea. We need a low post guy not another player who is, honestly, a lot like Deng.

June 11, 2007  09:47 AM ET

Here we go again. Is the goal to be cute, energetic and play hard, or to beat the hell out of someone, and collect your ring like San Antonio? I'm not the biggest Shaq supporter in the world, but clearly, a halfway healthy team with Shaq is where the power (and only legitimate threat to the west) resides. Marion to Chicago only creates more of a log jam on the wing with some kind of false depth that's supposedly going to wear people down. This ain't college! You have no stud! Deng may get there, but LeBron is in his own division! Plus, you'll have 2 monstrous salaries paid to guys who don't have a chance to score consistently on their own. And please don't refer to Marion's stats...Nash should charge him a gamely fee!

June 11, 2007  09:50 AM ET

They need a guy who can score in the post. Let the Bulls get a center or big power forward that is a real threat to score 20 a night and they are playing in the finals.
Letting Elton Brand go was the worst move in team history.

June 11, 2007  09:58 AM ET

That move makes sense.. If you could move deng to the SG spot, that would definitely upsize the bulls lineup.. And it gives hinrich another offensive weapon who does not need to dribble and create in order to score.. Plus marion is a glue guy who would give this team the veteran presence, along with ben wallace to compete deep in the playoffs, let alone compete for loose balls, defend and get those boards.. It would put them ahead of the Pistons.. I would agree with that move, however I doubt if Paxson is that creative..

June 11, 2007  10:17 AM ET

Sean Marion is one of the best players in the league, certainly a better player than both Gordon and Nocioni. Nash certainly makes things easier for Marion on the offensive end but Marion can rebound like a power forward and can finish around the basket with the best of them. He'd be steal for the Bulls but I doubt it will happen.

June 11, 2007  10:21 AM ET

ben gordon to the suns would be a steal for phoenix. the bulls would get another guy that can't shoot. that would put mor pressure on loul deng and krik hinrich, what is chicago thinking? Marion doesn't fit in witht eh bulls, the east is to slow for his game, which needs to be spoon fed.

June 11, 2007  10:31 AM ET

dabigfun,
Thank you. Are we not watching what San Antonio is doing?...well, not many of us are, but yes, they defend, rebound...all the 'entangibles' that sports media and jaded fans hold above all else. Here's the other thing...San Antonio has the leagues best player since Jordan left...and a stud point, and scorers, and shooters, etc. Filling your roster with limited energy guys isn't going to cut it. The east has a serious complex of only looking at the east. Your gauge should be who's up 2-0 in the Finals. Because the east is largely regarded as the JV anyway.

June 11, 2007  10:32 AM ET

The Bulls will be dumb to do this.

June 11, 2007  10:36 AM ET

doesnt anybody like marion to be on their team? him being an allstar and all...

June 11, 2007  10:48 AM ET

Marion is a slasher and a spot up shooter, bulls dont need that, Chicago needs someone who can draw a double team in the low post and open the lanes for their own slashers and set up their own shooters. I dont know if that type of player is available with a price tag of gordon + nocioni + duhon... plus maybe the 9th pick

June 11, 2007  11:06 AM ET

i agree, the Bulls should make a deal with Clippers and bring back Elton Brand...

give up the #9 pick, Duhon and Nocioni ..the Clippers are desperated for a point guard now since Livingston is not going to be back anytime soon.

with the line up like Ben and Brand together is awesome...i dare anyone to drive inside ..BLOCK BLOCK!!

June 11, 2007  11:44 AM ET

I believe the Bulls would be giving up too much for Marion, he's a good player but not a true Superstar....

June 11, 2007  11:50 AM ET

This would be a bad move. Don't give up Gordon, the team's leading scorer two years in a row. Adding Marion would just harm the progress Deng has been making.

June 11, 2007  11:58 AM ET

You bulls fans are putting too much value on Ben Gordon. Your smoking crack. If you can get Marion for Gordon and Nocioni you have to do it. The bulls have excess players, they can get what they need easy. Package someone else and the pick and move up in the draft, pick up Harford. That will answer all your post needs.

June 11, 2007  12:05 PM ET

Not gonna lie, I love it. Yeah you lose offense with gordon and noc outta there, but how many teams are gonna score more than 80 ppg on Hinrich, Deng, Tyrus, Marion and Wallace.... that sounds like a potential all-defensive team for 2008.

June 11, 2007  12:19 PM ET

BigGUW,
No disrespect, but the top 4 teams in the west, Denver and Golden State hang 100 on that team. All of those teams have a stud that could care less about some scrappy, undersized interior team that can't shoot. And while they may get out of the east scoring 75 pts/game, we're seeing in the Finals, that's not good enough. Again, to all the Bulls fans, (not saying you are BigGUW) is the objective to win the east or win a title? Those are 2 totally different things.

June 11, 2007  12:38 PM ET

Love it. Ben Gordon gives Phoenix another great perimeter shooter and can guard opposing point guards. Andres Nocioni has the hustle to replace many of the things that Marion does.

Bulls? They're not filling any of their needs and is losing their most consistent scorer. Plus Marion is another athletic wing player who's like a more seasoned luol deng and thabo sefolosha. And if you make him play PF, he and Ben Wallace will be the most undersized frontline on the planet. But hey, they're getting a top 20 player right??

:P
