NHL losing fight for Radulov

A previously secret meeting in Italy on Wednesday between Gary Bettman and KHL president Alexander Medvedev not only failed to broker a resolution on Alexander Radulov's contractual situation, but rather ended with the parties an ocean apart on a working agreement, The Post has learned. Radulov is the outstanding 22-year-old winger who has signed to play with Ufa of the KHL despite having one year remaining on his contract with Nashville. According to a source familiar with the meeting, when Bettman demanded that Radulov be returned to the Predators, Medvedev refused. When Bettman threatened legal action, Medvedev essentially invited the commissioner to present his case in Russian court, reminding the commissioner that the NHL success rate in the Russian legal system is equal to the zero-percent success rate of Russian hockey interests in the US court system. The Post has learned that Medvedev, citing common practice in international soccer, offered to pay a transfer fee to the Predators in order to resolve the dispute, but that Bettman refused to consider the proposal. The NHL has forbidden its teams to pay transfer fees to European clubs.

Maybe we can keep Radulov and send them Bettman?

No kidding. Little snitch was cleaver enough to sign just before the deal with the KHL was concluded.

Spiny, what would you trade them Bettman for a Russian tank currently being burned and dismantled by Georgians...
Good enough with me!

I would trade Bettman for a pair of sox...

Screw Radulov. I see the KHL offered a transfer fee for him. Take the cash, sue Radulov for the money remaining on his contract, then ban his **** from the NHL for good. Dont take him back when he doesnt want to play in Russia anymore. Then move on. If future players sign over there while under contract do the same to them.

August 15, 2008  11:02 AM ET

What is the big deal? The NHL had no trouble with its teams pilfering Russian players and now Russia does it back and they are crying. Why should KHL care?

We all shouldn't criticize players for taking the money. Everyone of us would do the same.

August 15, 2008  11:14 AM ET

This is too bad, Radulov has potential, but I like darkstorm's thinking, if they dont wanna play with the best let them go to Russia and never let them come back.

Id trade Bettman for Georgia

August 15, 2008  11:15 AM ET

Sorry I mean Id give Russia Bettman AND Georgia for nothing, good trade IMHO

Does that mean they get The Thrashers too?

I have no problem with players going for the money but not while under contract. They can play out the remainder of thier contract then go over. If they sign anywhere else while under contract screw 'em. So long farewell.

Surprisingly, the Russian was not intimidated by the threats from the midget. How is it that Nashville went from a promising young hockey club looking to make the next jump to fall apart like a blown semi tire on the highway?

I always dislike a player even wanting to re-negotiate a contract. Imagine if the owners wanted to do likewise cause the guy had a crap season?

But to actually go elsewhere while under contract is horse hooey.

If you are clean and freee, whatever floats your boat is OK by me. Just live with your decision.

Exactly,,,, make the penalty a year for every year they were under contract. If he had a year left with NHL then went to Russia for 2 years...decided after his contract there he wanted to come back....he still has to sit out for the year he cost the NHL team he was under contract to. if that makes sens...reading it over it sounds funny

Ok I'll revise it, Russia gets Radulov, and BOTH the state and country of Georgia
