Tempers flare at Cards camp

Sparks were flying Wednesday night as tempers flared during a nearly two-hour Cardinals practice, and it was still generating a buzz Thursday. The spirited workout ended up taking a turn for the worse when, at the conclusion of a passing play, linebacker Travis LaBoy shoved reserve quarterback Brian St. Pierre to the ground from behind. Several players on offense, led by quarterback Kurt Warner, got in LaBoy's face and coach Ken Whisenhunt immediately lectured LaBoy about the hit. But the tension was still mounting and eventually, the session was ended early after a mob scene broke out when safety Adrian Wilson put a clean, but extra-hard hit on rookie running back Tim Hightower during a goal-line competition.

A linebacker shoved a QB in the back? From the same team no less? Now there's one tough son-of-a-gun...........

August 15, 2008  07:57 AM ET

....and a rookie rb took a good hard hit on the goal line. I can't believe what happens at a football practice

August 15, 2008  08:01 AM ET

You the Cardinals actually showed some life?

August 15, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Here's hoping they can do this in an actual game.

August 15, 2008  09:21 AM ET

hmm not sure what to make of this, perhaps the cards defense will carry an attitude on the field this season. which could be a good thing.

or perhaps the defense is so emotional, they will disrupt the team, cause locker room issues, and generally sink the cardinals. which has happened in the past before..

"hmm not sure what to make of this,"

How about the same thing we've made from it for the last 40 years? They're going to bite just like they always do.

When LaBoy is looking for a job at some point, how many coaches and owners are going have a good feeling about signing a guy who committed the biggest no-no you can make in practice and what guarantee would they have that it wouldn't happen to their 15 million dollar franchise QB? The QBs wear those red shirts for a reason. That was just stupid of him to do.

August 15, 2008  10:03 AM ET

Agree that it was stupid of him to do that, but I think it is good to see aggression from the defense......they play that way and play well in games, and the offensive players are going to forget all about getting hit a couple of times in practice.

August 15, 2008  10:20 AM ET

Kurt Warner got in his face? Alright Kurt...I agree that they should have got on him...

August 15, 2008  10:42 AM ET

why is this a story?

August 15, 2008  10:53 AM ET

Why are the Cards still in the NFL?

August 15, 2008  11:01 AM ET

Guys will be guys...

"They are who we thought they were! That's why we took the damn field! You want to crown them, crown their ****! But they are who we thought they were, and we let them off the hook!"

August 15, 2008  12:36 PM ET

Well said trebortsew!

August 15, 2008  01:56 PM ET

Kurt is a real leader. If the Rams still had him, they would be a playoff team instead of being lucky to win 4 games.

August 15, 2008  02:16 PM ET

It's training camp. There's always scuffles, broken noses, and QB's getting hurt, NEXT!!!

Or perhaps they will be cut before the regular season starts for being **** and not following rules accordingly.

August 15, 2008  03:36 PM ET

It got intense because it was the first time they had been around the goal line in a while - cut 'em some slack! =)

August 15, 2008  04:03 PM ET

Two QBs who could start, a good running back, two top notch receivers, and an improving offensive line. An all pro safety, a good defensive tackle, and an overall pretty good defense.
Will this team ever play to its promise?

August 15, 2008  04:11 PM ET

I have never seen a team come unravelled like this BEFORE regular season even starts.

August 15, 2008  04:39 PM ET

c note - I think that will happen this year, in year two for Whisenhunt. This team easily could have had 10-11 wins last year, and I think the second year for the new coach will be the steadying factor. Watch for the Cards to win the NFC West
